John Hunter (Third Lanark Footballer)
John Hunter (1854 – 2 November 1881) was a Scottish footballer who played for Third Lanark, Glasgow Eastern and Scotland (four caps). He played on the losing side in the Scottish Cup finals of 1876 and 1878, and made several representative appearances for Glasgow. After retiring as a player, Hunter coached Linthouse. Coylton
Coylton ( sco, Culton) is a village and civil parish in South Ayrshire, Scotland. It is east of Ayr and west of Drongan, on the A70 road, A70. Sundrum Castle Holiday Park is to the west of the village, in the grounds of Sundrum Castle, which partly dates to the 13th century. A rocking stone stands atop the Craigs of Kyle near Coylton. Archibald Hunter (23 September 1859 – 29 November 1894) was a Scottish Association football, footballer who was the first captain of Aston Villa F.C., Aston Villa to lift the FA Cup, in 1887 FA Cup Final, 1887. He was one of Victorian football's first household names. Aston is an area of inner Birmingham, England. Located immediately to the north-east of Central Birmingham, Aston constitutes a ward within the metropolitan authority. It is approximately 1.5 miles from Birmingham City Centre. History Aston was first mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086 as "Estone", having a mill, a priest and therefore probably a church, woodland and ploughland. The Church of Saints Peter and Paul was built in medieval times to replace an earlier church. The body of the church was rebuilt by J. A. Andrew Hunter (August 1864 in Joppa, Ayrshire, Joppa, Ayrshire, Scotland – 19 June 1888 in Australia) was a Scottish association football, footballer known for scoring Aston Villa's first goal in the FA Cup. He also played for Ayr Thistle F.C., Ayr Thistle, Third Lanark A.C., Third Lanark and Vale of Leven F.C., Vale of Leven, before coming to England. Like his more famous brother, Archie Hunter, Archie, who captained Aston Villa in the same period, he died young from a heart attack. Linthouse F
Linthouse is a neighbourhood in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. It is situated directly south of the River Clyde and lies immediately west of Govan, with other adjacent areas including Shieldhall and the Southern General Hospital to the west, and Drumoyne to the south. Although it is currently located within the Govan ward of Glasgow City Council, it was in fact a distinct area separate from Govan (the boundary being the former Fairfield Shipbuilding Company headquarters and Elder Park) until 1901 when it willfully became part of the Burgh of GovanBrotchie, T.C.F., (1905) The History Of Govan in turn both areas were annexed to Glasgow in 1912. Linthouse was home to the shipbuilder Alexander Stephen and Sons Limited who built many famous vessels for the Royal Navy in the 20th Century.
