John Humphreys Davies
John Humphreys Davies (15 April 1871 – 10 August 1926) was a Welsh lawyer, bibliographer and educator. He joined the movement to start a National Library of Wales. Family and schooling Born at Llangeitho, Ceredigion, he was the son of Robert J. Davies, Cwrtmawr. He was educated at the Aberystywth University, University College of Wales, Aberystwyth and Lincoln College, Oxford, before being called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn. Welsh literature Davies's interest in Welsh literature is associated with O. M. Edwards at Oxford University, Oxford and to his brother-in-law, T. E. Ellis. Along with Sir John Williams, 1st Baronet, of the City of London, Sir John Williams, who became his President while Principal at Aberystwyth, Davies was involved in the movement to establish a National Library for Wales. Joseph Angus
Joseph Angus (January 1816 – August 1902) was an English Baptist minister, college head, and biblical scholar. Life The only son of John Angus, a farmer and later a leather merchant, by his wife Elizabeth Wanless, he was born at Bolam, Northumberland. His first schooling was at Newcastle, under George Ferris Whidborne Mortimer, who wanted to send him to Cambridge. As a nonconformist and a member of the Baptist church under Thomas Pengilly at Newcastle, he preferred the University of Edinburgh, where he entered in 1834, after passing a year at King's College, London. In 1835, he studied for the Baptist ministry at Stepney College under William Harris Murch. Returning to Edinburgh with a scholarship under Dr. Ward's trust, he graduated M.A. 27 April 1837. In 1838, Angus accepted a call to New Park Street chapel, Southwark. Henry Stuart-Jones
Sir Henry Stuart Jones, FBA (15 May 1867 – 29 June 1939) was a British academic. He was educated at Balliol College, Oxford; he obtained a First in Classical Moderations in 1888 and a First in Literae Humaniores ('Greats', a combination of philosophy and ancient history) in 1890,. He was appointed to a Fellowship at Trinity College, Oxford, in 1897. From 1903 to 1905 he was Director of the British School at Rome and in 1920 moved from Trinity to Brasenose College to take up the post of Camden Professor of Ancient History which he held until 1927 when he took up a series of Welsh academic posts listed below .
