John Hughes (May 23, 1882 – October 2, 1954) was an American art director. He was nominated for three Academy Awards in the category Best Art Direction. He worked on more than 90 films between 1921 and 1951. He was born in Missouri and died in Los Angeles, California. John Hughes (footballer, Born 1943)
John Hughes (3 April 1943 – 1 August 2022) was a Scottish footballer who played for Celtic, Crystal Palace, Sunderland and the Scotland national team. Hughes was nicknamed 'Yogi', derived from the popular cartoon character Yogi Bear, said to be due to his large build. He was part of the Celtic team that won the 1966–67 European Cup although he did not play in the final due to injury. Club career Born in Coatbridge, Hughes signed for Celtic from Shotts Bon Accord in 1959, and scored 197 goals in 435 appearances during his eleven seasons with the club. He was part of the Celtic squad who won the European Cup in 1967 and became known as the 'Lisbon Lions'. John Norman Hughes (10 July 1921 – 31 August 2003) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Birmingham City. Born in Tamworth, Staffordshire, Hughes made his name in non-league football during the Second World War. John Iorweth Hughes (1913 - 1993) was a Welsh footballer who played professionally in England and Scotland. He played one game for the Wales national football team. Playing career Club career Born in Rhosllanerchrugog, Hughes played for various Welsh clubs until 1932, when he joined Blackburn Rovers. Over the next five years he made 47 appearances in the Football League First Division. In 1937 he joined Mansfield Town, where he made 76 League appearances. After the Second World War he played for a number of non-League teams in the Lancashire area before moving to Scotland to play for Third Lanark. John "Jack" Hughes (1855 – 2 October 1914) was a Welsh amateur footballer who made two appearances as a forward for Wales in 1877 and 1879. He was also involved in the early days of Aberystwyth Town Football Club. Early life and education Hughes was born at Glynpadarn, near Aberystwyth, the son of Hugh Hughes, a local solicitor. He was educated at Shrewsbury School where he played "soccer" for the school first eleven in 1872–73. In October 1874, he was admitted to Jesus College, Cambridge as a "pensioner", graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in 1878. At Cambridge, he was awarded a blue in 1875, 1876 and 1877; in the latter year, he played alongside fellow future Wales international, John Morgan. John Hughes (29 May 1925 – 14 August 2009) was Labour Member of Parliament (MP) for Coventry North East in the United Kingdom from 1987 to 1992. Born in Tanfield Lea, County Durham, he served in the Royal Navy aboard during the Second World War.
