John Hudson (classicist)
John Hudson (1662 – 26 November 1719), English classical scholar, was born at Wythop, near Cockermouth in Cumberland. He was educated at The Queen's College, Oxford, and spent the rest of his life at the University: appointed as a Fellow of University College, Oxford in 1686, Bodley's librarian in 1701, and in 1711 principal of St Mary Hall, Oxford. His political views stood in the way of his preferment in the church and university. As an editor and commentator, he enjoyed a high reputation both at home and abroad. John Wilson Hudson (June 30, 1912 in Bryan, Texas – November 7, 1970) was an American professional baseball player, manager and scout. As an active player, the infielder appeared in 426 Major League Baseball games for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Chicago Cubs and New York Giants from 1936 to 1941 and in 1945. He threw and batted right-handed, stood tall and weighed . In , Hudson was the Dodgers' starting second baseman, penciled into the lineup for 123 games. He reached MLB career highs in hits (130) and most offensive categories. However, he led National League second basemen in errors, with 27, that year. Faith No More is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1979. Before settling on the current name in July 1983, the band performed under the names Sharp Young Men and later Faith No Man. Bassist Billy Gould, keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Roddy Bottum and drummer Mike Bordin are the longest-remaining members of the band, having been involved since its inception. The band underwent several early lineup changes, and some major changes later. John Pilkington Hudson, (24 July 1910 – 6 December 2007) was an English horticultural scientist who did pioneer work on long-distance transportability of what became known as the kiwifruit. He was also a celebrated bomb disposal expert. John Elbridge Hudson (August 3, 1839 – October 1, 1900) was a United States, U.S. lawyer, telephone businessman, and president of AT&T from 1889 to 1900. Early life Hudson was born in Lynn, Massachusetts to John Hudson and Elizabeth C. (née Hilliard) Hudson. He made Bachelor of Arts at Harvard College in 1862 as valedictorian. He made Bachelor of Laws in 1865 and was admitted to the bar the following year. Career After admission to the bar, Hudson joined the Boston law firm Chandler, Shattuck & Thayer, where he became partner in 1870. Born in Sheffield, Hudson played for hometown clubs Sheffield, The Wednesday and Sheffield United; he also represented England at international level.
