John Holloway Sanders
John Holloway Sanders FRIBA (1825 – 16 October 1884) was an architect based in England and chief architect of the Midland Railway until 1884. His date of appointment as Chief Architect to the Midland Railway is not known, but he is recorded as working for them in 1845. He is particularly noted for his station buildings on the Settle to Carlisle railway which were all built in a similar style, they became known colloquially as ''Midland Gothic'' or ''Derby Gothic''. He was appointed Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects on 22 April 1872. Tinsley Railway Station
Tinsley railway station was a railway station in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, opened in March 1869. This station was designed by the company architect John Holloway Sanders. The station served the growing community of Tinsley and the workers at the nearby steelworks which had moved to or had been founded in the lower Don Valley following major changes in manufacturing methods in the mid - late 19th century. The station, opened by the South Yorkshire Railway, was built on the line between Sheffield Victoria and Barnsley and became a junction station with the opening of the line from Tinsley Junction (later Tinsley South Junction) to the original Rotherham station by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway. Shirebrook railway station serves the town of Shirebrook in Derbyshire, England. The station is on the Robin Hood Line, 21½ miles (35 km) north of Nottingham towards Worksop. It was opened for goods traffic in April 1875 and for passenger traffic on 1 June 1875 when the Midland Railway built a branch line from Mansfield to Worksop. Dandry Mire Viaduct
Dandry Mire Viaduct, (or Dandrymire Viaduct), is a railway viaduct on the Settle & Carlisle line in Cumbria, England. It is just north of Garsdale station, from , and south of . When the Settle & Carlisle line was being built, the traversing of Dandry Mire was to have been by use of an embankment, but the bog swallowed all of the material poured into it, so a trench was dug instead, and a viaduct constructed. The viaduct, which is long and high, is still open to traffic on the railway, and is a prominent landmark at the head of Garsdale. Shenton Railway Station
Shenton railway station is located about 0.5 miles from the village of Shenton, Leicestershire, England. It is the current southern terminus of the Battlefield Line Railway, which runs to here from Shackerstone. The station is located at the foot of Ambion Hill and is actually the reconstructed Humberstone Road Station from Leicester. The original station closed in 1965 and was dismantled and relocated (except for a small lamp room that now serves as the Station Pottery). Shackerstone railway station is a preserved railway station and heritage museum in Leicestershire, Central England. It is the terminus and the headquarters of the heritage Battlefield Line Railway, with the Shackerstone Railwayana Museum, tea room, shop, loco shed and main rolling stock located here. The Ashby Canal is nearby. Nuneaton Abbey Street was the second main railway station serving Nuneaton in Warwickshire, England, It operated between 1864 and closure in 1968. The other main station being Nuneaton Trent Valley which is still open, but now known as simply ''Nuneaton''. Mansfield railway station is a railway station which serves the town of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire, England. Alternatively it is named Mansfield Town, to distinguish itself from the GCR's former Mansfield Central and Mansfield Woodhouse's station. The station is north of Nottingham on the Robin Hood Line, and is managed by East Midlands Railway. The station building is Grade II listed. Iron Acton Railway Station
Iron Acton station opened on 2 September 1872, with the start of services on the Midland Railway branch from Yate to Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, Thornbury. The station was designed by the Midland Railway company architect John Holloway Sanders. It closed to passenger services on 19 June 1944. The station served Iron Acton village and was sited to the south west of it. It consisted of a single platform face and a large wooden station building. A freight-only branch serving an iron mine in Frampton Cotterell connected at the station. This closed in 1872 and a truncated section of this route served as a coal depot until closure on 10 June 1963. The station was demolished in the 1960s. The part-remains of the platform survive, as does a crossing-keeper's cottage to the south of the station site.
