John Higgins (comics)
John Higgins (born 1949) is an English comic book artist and writer. He did significant work for '' 2000 AD'', and he has frequently worked with writer Alan Moore, most notably as colourist for ''Watchmen''. Biography John Higgins was born in Walton, Liverpool. After leaving school when he was 15, he joined the army and, on leaving, spent some time in a commune in Wiltshire. He returned to Liverpool and, in 1971, resumed his studies at Wallasey College of Art. There, in 1974 he qualified in technical illustration, which allowed him to get a job as a medical illustrator at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. After getting his first comic book art published in ''Brainstorm'' in 1975, he drew the cover for '' 2000 AD'' No. 43 in 1977 and decided to go freelance in 1978, with an eye on becoming a comic artist. Walton, Merseyside
Walton is an area of Liverpool, England, north of Anfield and east of Bootle and Orrell Park. Historically in Lancashire, it is largely residential, with a diverse population. History The name may derive from the same origin as Wales. The incoming Saxons called the earlier native inhabitants (the Celtic Britons) ''Walas'' or ''Wealas'', meaning "foreigner". Another possible etymology is ''Wald tun'', Old English for "Forest Town". Walton's recorded history starts with the death of Edward the Confessor, when Winestan held the manor of Walton. After the Norman conquest of 1066, Roger of Poitou included Walton in the lands he gave to his sheriff, Godfrey. Marvel UK
Marvel UK was an imprint of Marvel Comics formed in 1972 to reprint US-produced stories for the British weekly comic market. Marvel UK later produced original material by British creators such as Alan Moore, John Wagner, Dave Gibbons, Steve Dillon, and Grant Morrison. There were a number of editors in charge of overseeing the UK editions. Although based in the United States, Tony Isabella oversaw the establishment of Marvel UK. He was succeeded by UK-based editors Peter L. Skingley (a.k.a. Peter Allan) and then Matt Softly – both of whom were women who adopted male pen names for the job (in reality, they were Petra Skingley and Maureen Softly). They were then replaced by Neil Tennant, who later found fame with the pop group the Pet Shop Boys. The Morgaine Stories
''The Morgaine Stories'', also known as ''The Morgaine Cycle'', are a series of fantasy novels by American writer C. J. Cherryh, published by DAW Books. They concern a time-traveling heroine, Morgaine, and her loyal companion Nhi Vanye i Chya. The first book in the series, ''Gate of Ivrel'' (1976), was Cherryh's first published novel, and was followed soon thereafter by '' Well of Shiuan'' (1978) and '' Fires of Azeroth'' (1979). The construct at the center of these novels is a set of "Gates" that connect various worlds. In addition to traveling from place to place, the Gates can also be used for time travel. Cherryh has cited the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs and Andre Norton as influences in the development of her gate system. The Cabinet Of Light
''The Cabinet of Light'' was the ninth novella published by Telos Publishing Ltd. as part of its Doctor Who novellas series. It was written by Daniel O'Mahony and was published as a standard edition hardback and a deluxe edition with a frontispiece by John Higgins (). Both editions had a foreword by Chaz Brenchley. The novella featured an unspecified future incarnation of the Doctor who appears to be travelling without a companion, although it is hinted that Emily Blandish may have been travelling with him. The story focuses mostly on Honoré Lechasseur, an ex-GI turned spiv who is searching for the Doctor. Although the novella is now out of print, the characters of Emily and Honoré continued their adventures in the Telos Time Hunter series of novellas. Newsarama is an American website that publishes news, interviews, and essays about the American comic book industry. It is owned by Future US. In June 2020, Newsarama was merged with the website GamesRadar+, also owned by FutureUS. History Newsarama began in mid-1995 as a series of Internet forum postings on the Prodigy comic book message boards by fan Mike Doran. In the forum postings, Doran shared comic book-related news items he had found across the World Wide Web and, as these postings became more regular and read widely, he gave them the title "Prodigy Comic Book Newswire." In January 1997, Doran began to post a version of the column titled ''The Comics Newswire'' on Usenet's various rec.arts.comics communities. Jonah Hex
Jonah Woodson Hex is a fictional antihero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga. Hex is a surly and cynical bounty hunter whose face is scarred on the right side. Despite his poor reputation and personality, Hex is bound by a personal code of honor to protect and avenge the innocent. Jimmy Palmiotti
James Palmiotti (born August 14, 1961) is an American writer and inker of comic books, who also does writing for games, television and film. Early life Palmiotti attended the High School of Art and Design in New York City. Career Palmiotti started at Marvel Comics in 1991. He inked titles such as the ''Punisher'', ''Ghost Rider'', '' The Nam'' and the Marvel 2099 line, and has accumulated extensive inking and writing credits. He often inked the work of his friend and collaborator Joe Quesada. Together, they created ''Ash'' and ''Painkiller Jane''. For Marvel, Palmiotti worked on the established '' Daredevil'', a run especially known for the "Guardian Devil" arc scripted by Kevin Smith. Justin Gray
Justin Gray is an American comic book writer working mostly for DC Comics. Career Gray has often collaborated with fellow writer Jimmy Palmiotti on series such as '' Hawkman'', ''Jonah Hex'', ''Power Girl'', '' 21 Down'', '' Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters'' and '' The Resistance''. Pat Mills
Patrick Eamon Mills (born 1949) is an English comics writer and editor who, along with John Wagner, revitalised British boys comics in the 1970s, and has remained a leading light in British comics ever since. He has been called "the godfather of British comics". His comics are notable for their violence and anti-authoritarianism. He is best known for creating '' 2000 AD'' and playing a major part in the development of ''Judge Dredd''. Biography Mills started his career as a sub-editor for D. C. Thomson & Co.
