John Hicks Eynon
John Hicks Eynon (1801-1888) was a Bible Christian minister. He was born in China. At the Bible Christian Conference of 1831, held in Cornwall, UK, it was decided to send missionaries to Canada. Eynon was among those sent. In 1839 he helped to form the first Bible Christian Chapel at Cobourg, Ontario. His memorial stone at Bethesda Cemetery near Tyrone, Darlington Township, reads: ''"In memory of the Rev. John H. Eynon. Entered the Bible Christian Ministry in 1826. Came as a pioneer missionary to Canada in 1833 and lived to see over 80 ministers, nearly 8000 members and over 10,000 Sabbath School children connected with the BC Church in Canada. Servant of God - Well Done."'' Rev. The Bible Christian Church was a Methodist denomination founded by William O’Bryan, a Wesleyan Methodist local preacher, on 18 October 1815 in North Cornwall. The first society, consisting of just 22 members, met at Lake Farm in Shebbear, Devon. Members of the Church were sometimes known as Bryanites, after their founder. Early history Primarily concentrated in Cornwall and Devon, the church sent missionaries all over England. By 1820, missions had been established in the Channel Islands and in Kent. They were also strong in the Isle of Wight amongst farm labourers, largely due to the inspirational teachings of Mary Toms of Tintagel, Cornwall. The vicar of Brighstone, Samuel Wilberforce, urged that their influence be countered by having their adherents sacked from their jobs and turned out from their cottages, resulting in their sometimes meeting in a chalk pit. Exeter is a community in the municipality of South Huron, in the southern portion of Huron County, Ontario, Canada, located approximately 40 kilometres north of London. The community proclaims itself the "Home of the White Squirrel", owing to the presence of the unusually-coloured mammals. Exeter's mascot, "Willis The White Wonder", can be seen at many community events throughout the year, including Canada Day celebrations, the Exeter Rodeo, and the Santa Claus Parade.
