John Hannigan
John Hannigan (1938/9 – 22 April 2014) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for St Eunan's and the Donegal county team. A versatile player, Hannigan began his career in midfield but played everywhere from corner back to corner-forward. He played as corner forward in the final of the 1956 Ulster Minor Football Championship, which Donegal won. He played 114 times for Donegal and made 27 Championship appearances between 1958 and 1973. Hannigan played for Donegal in the 1964–65 National Football League semi-final against Kerry, scoring 1–0. He won the 1972 Ulster Senior Football Championship with Donegal. Hannigan managed Donegal in 1975 and 1976. He also pursued an interest in golf. Hannigan died in Dublin aged 75 after suffering a heart attack in April 2014. Married to Claire, they had a son Damien and a daughter Adrianne. He is buried at Conwal Cemetery. St Eunan's GAA
St Eunans GAA ( ; or ''Naomh Adhamhnáin'') is a dual club which plays hurling and Gaelic football. Their home ground is O'Donnell Park in Letterkenny. They field 35 teams, making them the biggest club in their county. One of the strongholds of Gaelic football in County Donegal, they have won the joint most Donegal Senior Football Championship along with Gaoth Dobhair who have also won 15. Considered Donegal's most prolific club, they are renowned for their conveyor belt-like consistency in producing players of senior inter-county quality, including numerous All-Ireland winners. The Dr McKenna Cup is an annual Gaelic football competition played between Counties of Ireland, counties and List of universities in Northern Ireland, universities in the province of Ulster GAA, Ulster. Donegal Senior Football Championship
The Donegal Senior Football Championship (abbreviated as Donegal SFC) is an annual football competition organised by Donegal GAA and contested by the highest-level clubs, to determine the best team in County Donegal. Since 2016, it has been known as Michael Murphy Sports and Leisure Donegal SFC after its headline sponsor. Initially a straight knock-out competition, the Donegal SFC added a round-robin group stage in 2013. The final is played at MacCumhaill Park in Ballybofey. The winning club qualifies to represent its county in the Ulster Senior Club Football Championship, the winners of which go on to compete in the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. The winning club receives the Dr Maguire Cup. The competition has been won by 17 clubs, 14 of which have won it more than once. Dr Lagan Cup
The Dr Lagan Cup was an inter-county Gaelic football competition in the province of Ulster. The competition was discontinued in 1967 when Donegal won the competition. The Lagan Cup was the trophy for a Senior Football League, which at the time was limited to seven Ulster counties, unlike the Dr McKenna Cup, which is a knockout competition that includes all nine of Ulster's counties. Frankie Donnelly holds the record for the highest individual scoring tally in an inter-county match, with 4–11 for Tyrone against Fermanagh in the 1957 Dr Lagan Cup. The ''Donegal News'' (also known as ''Derry People/Donegal News'' and formerly ''Derry People'') is a twice-weekly local newspaper in the northwest of the island of Ireland, first published in 1902.
