John H. Yancey
John Howard Yancey (27 April 1918 – 16 May 1986) was a highly decorated United States Marine Corps combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He received two Navy Crosses, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. Early life Yancey was born on 27 April 1918 in Plumerville, Arkansas. He graduated from Little Rock Central High School and then attended Ouachita College, but left school before graduating in 1942 to join the Marine Corps at the outbreak of World War II. Military career World War II Yancey was assigned to the Marine Raiders in World War II and became the body guard to Lieutenant Colonel Evans Carlson, the commander of the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion. In November 1942, during the Guadalcanal Campaign in the Solomon Islands, Yancey's leadership in a strategic battle earned him the Navy Cross and a battlefield commission to lieutenant. The Combat Action Ribbon (CAR, ), is a high precedence United States Navy, United States Coast Guard, and United States Marine Corps military decoration awarded to United States sea service members "who have actively participated in ground or surface combat." Coast Guardsmen, Navy sailors, and Marines active in clandestine, stealth or special operations are deemed eligible for consideration of the award. Guadalcanal (; indigenous name: ''Isatabu'') is the principal island in Guadalcanal Province of Solomon Islands, located in the south-western Pacific, northeast of Australia. It is the largest island in the Solomon Islands by area, and the second by population (after Malaita). The island is mainly covered in dense tropical rainforest and has a mountainous hinterland. Marine Corps League
The Marine Corps League is the only congressionally chartered United States Marine Corps-related veterans organization in the United States. Its congressional charter was approved by the 75th U.S. Congress and signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 4, 1937. The organization credits Major General John A. Sudong County is a county in South Hamgyŏng province, North Korea. It was formed from part of Kowŏn County in December 1990. Sudong is the site of a major coal seam first discovered in 1918. The P'yŏngra Line of the Korean State Railway passes through the district.
