John Hannibal White
John Hannibal White (c. 1828 – July 26, 1878) was a delegate to South Carolina's 1868 Constitutional Convention, a two-term member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, and a state senator in South Carolina. He worked as a blacksmith. White was enslaved from birth. During the Civil War he would read updates to members of his community in York County, South Carolina. John Hazen White
John Hazen White (March 10, 1849 - March 16, 1925) was an episcopal bishop in Indiana and the first bishop of Northern Indiana in The Episcopal Church. Biography White was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 10, 1849, the son of Moses Hazen White and Mary Miller Williams. He was educated at the public schools of Cincinnati, graduating from Woodward High in 1867. He then entered Kenyon College, from where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1872. In 1875, he graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity, after studying at Berkeley Divinity School. White was ordained deacon on June 4, 1875, and priest on May 28, 1876. He then became assistant rector of St Andrew's Church in Meriden, Connecticut, while in 1878 he became rector of Grace Church in Old Saybrook, Connecticut and in 1881 of Christ Church in Joliet, Illinois. He married Marie Louise Holbrook on April 23, 1879, and together had seven children. White was elected Bishop of Indiana on February 6, 1895, on the first ballot. He was consecrat ... John Herbert White
John Herbert White (22 February 1880 – 18 November 1920, London, England) was co-author with Richard Clewin Griffith of the first three editions of the famous chess opening treatise ''Modern Chess Openings''. It was first published in 1911 and is still in print. Griffith and White explained in the preface to the first edition that "the many recent master tournaments have rendered necessary an up-to-date book on the Openings" and that "the book is intended to be a guide for match and tournament players". The fifteenth edition, by American grandmaster Nick de Firmian, was published in 2008. The book is commonly referred to as ''MCO'' today. White was the Secretary of the Hampstead Chess Club. The 1939 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy was the last races until 1947 due to the interruption by World War II. It was also the last of ten Isle of Man TT victories for the 34-year-old Stanley Woods in which he won the Junior TT on a Velocette at 83.19 mph and also finished in 4th place in the Senior TT race. The 250cc Lightweight TT race was a first time winner for Ted Mellors and the Benelli marque. The Senior TT race was won by the German competitor Georg Meier on a supercharged 500CC BMW Type 255 motor-cycle. John Howard White
John Howard White (August 16, 1925 – September 5, 1996) was a Progressive Conservative cabinet minister in Ontario, Canada, and Member of Provincial Parliament for London South from 1959 to 1975. He served as provincial treasurer from January 1973 to January 1975. Background White was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1925 to Howard White and Margaret Johnson. He was educated at the University of Western Ontario earning a bachelor of arts, a business diploma and a master of arts in economics. After graduation he joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1944 and served for two years during World War II. He worked for the Steel Company of Canada and he had owned small businesses in London, Ontario, the Canadian Industrial Supply Co Ltd, and, later, the Canada Financial Leasing Company.
