John Glossop
Vice Admiral John Collings Taswell Glossop, (23 October 1871 – 23 December 1934) was a British Royal Navy officer best known for captaining the Australian cruiser during the Battle of Cocos in which the German cruiser was sunk. Naval career Passing out of HMS Britannia in 1887, he served for a short time in the Channel Fleet. His lifelong association with Australia began in 1888 when he arrived as a Midshipman in , flagship of the Australian Squadron. He was then transferred to , Calypso-class corvette and to , Fantome class, both serving in the Pacific. Promoted sub lieutenant in 1891 and lieutenant in 1893, he specialised in navigation, returning to the Australia Station in 1896 as Navigating Officer of , a ''Satellite''-class sloop. Glossop returned to England in 1900 and after two years as an instructor in Britannia. He was given his first command, ''Bramble''-class gunboat, in June 1902. Twickenham, Middlesex
Twickenham is a suburban district in London, England. It is situated on the River Thames southwest of Charing Cross. Historically part of Middlesex, it has formed part of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames since 1965, and the borough council's administrative headquarters are located in the area. The population, including St Margarets and Whitton, was 62,148 at the 2011 census. Twickenham is the home of the Rugby Football Union, with hundreds of thousands of spectators visiting Twickenham Stadium each year. The historic riverside area has a network of 18th-century buildings and pleasure grounds, many of which have survived intact. This area has three grand period mansions with public access: York House, Marble Hill and Strawberry Hill House.
