John Gifford (writer)
John Gifford (1758 – 6 March 1818) was an English political writer. He was born John Richards Green until changing his name at the age of 23. Gifford wrote a ''History of England'' (two volumes, 1790), ''History of France'' (four volumes, 1791-3), and ''The Reign of Louis XVI: a Complete History of the French Revolution'' (1794). A staunch supporter of William Pitt the Younger's government, Gifford wrote loyalist pamphlets such as ''A Plain Address to the Common Sense of the People of England'' with an annex titled ‘An abstract of Thomas Paine's life and writings’ (1792). His 1798 ''Short Address to Members of Loyal Associations'' was said to have sold 100,000 copies. Gifford also translated a few French émigré royalist pamphlets. He founded the '' Anti-Jacobin Review'' in 1798 after the demise of '' The Anti-Jacobin''. It published until 1821. John Hoskins Gifford
John Hoskins Gifford (c.1693–1744), of Beaminster, Dorset, and Boreham, near Warminster, Wiltshire, was a British Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1713 and 1734. Gifford was the second son of William Gifford of Beaminster, Dorset, and Horsington, Somerset and his wife Mary Hoskins, daughter of John Hoskins of Beaminster. He matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford on 7 December 1710, aged 17, and was admitted at Middle Temple in 1710. In 1713 he succeeded to the family estates in Wiltshire and Somerset on the death of his brother Benjamin Gifford, M.P. At the 1713 general election Gifford was returned as Tory Member of Parliament for Bridport but did not stand in 1715 or 1722. At the 1727 election he was returned as MP for Westbury on the interest of Lord Abingdon and survived a petition against the return. John "Jack" F. Gifford (January 11, 1941 – January 11, 2009) was an American engineer and businessman best known as a founder and former CEO, President and Chairman of the Board of Maxim Integrated Products, an analog and mixed signal semiconductor company, located in San Jose, California. He served as the company's CEO until his retirement in 2007. Life and career Gifford was born in 1941 and graduated from Banning High School in Los Angeles, California. He attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on a baseball scholarship and wanted to play professionally. John Rufus Gifford (born August 5, 1974) is an American politician, diplomat, and reality television personality, who serves as the chief of protocol of the United States. Between 2013 and 2017, he was the United States Ambassador to Denmark. In 2012, Gifford was Finance Director for Barack Obama's presidential re-election campaign. Once re-elected, Obama nominated him to be the United States Ambassador to Denmark, a post he held until the end of Obama's presidency. After returning to the United States, he was a candidate for the House of Representatives in 2018, running in Massachusetts's 3rd congressional district. Gifford lost in the Democratic primary to Lori Trahan, who would go on to win the general election. He was Deputy Campaign Manager for Joe Biden's 2020 presidential campaign.
