Commissary Sergeant John Galloway (1843 – May 23, 1904) was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Galloway received his country's highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action at Farmville, Virginia in April 1865. He was honored with the award on October 30, 1897. Galloway joined the 8th Pennsylvania Cavalry from Philadelphia in August 1861. He was promoted to regimental commissary sergeant in January 1865, and was discharged the following July with the rank of first lieutenant. Sir John Alexander Macdonald (January 10 or 11, 1815 – June 6, 1891) was the first prime minister of Canada, serving from 1867 to 1873 and from 1878 to 1891. The dominant figure of Canadian Confederation, he had a political career that spanned almost half a century. Macdonald was born in Scotland; when he was a boy his family immigrated to Kingston in the Province of Upper Canada (today in eastern Ontario). John James Galloway (18 February 1818 – 30 June 1883) was an early surveyor of Australia and New Zealand and a Member of the Queensland Legislative Council. Early life John James Galloway was born on in Leith, Scotland. In 1837, at the age of 19, Galloway traveled with his father Thomas Galloway (who was serving as the ship's surgeon) to Australia. Career Galloway secured an appointment as an assistant surveyor in Australia. He was then briefly assistant surveyor to New Zealand in 1840. Beginning in 1842 he acted as Commissioner for Crown Lands within the Boundaries. He became a licensed surveyor in 1844, which enabled him to in 1847 secure appointment as a full surveyor. Galloway served two terms in the Queensland Legislative Council. His first term was from 1 May 1860 until 1 May 1865 and the second was from 13 November 1869 until 17 April 1872. W & J Galloway and Sons was a British manufacturer of steam engines and boilers based in Manchester, England. The firm was established in 1835 as a partnership of two brothers, William and John Galloway. The partnership expanded to encompass their sons and in 1889 it was restructured as a limited liability company. It ceased trading in 1932. The Galloway brothers had been apprenticed to another partnership involving their father, a maker of waterwheels and gearing for mills, before setting up in business on their own account. Their firm grew to be a specialist producer of steam engines and industrial boilers with a worldwide customer base and a reputation for ingenuity. ''Saladin'' was a British barque that made voyages between Britain and the coast of Peru, carrying shipments of guano. The ship is best known for its demise in an act of mutiny, murder and piracy which began with the murder of its captain and officers and ended with the ship being stranded off the coast of Nova Scotia on 21 May 1844, followed by the last major piracy trial in Canada. Voyage ''Saladin'' sailed from Valparaiso on 8 February 1844, carrying a shipment of guano, 70 tons of copper, 13 bars of silver, and about $9000 of gold and silver coins. The ship's crew consisted of Captain Alexander MacKenzie, First Mate Thomas F.
