John George Davies
Sir John George Davies (17 February 1846 – 12 November 1913), generally known as (Sir) George Davies, was a Tasmanian politician, newspaper proprietor and first-class cricketer. Davies' Jewish father John Snr. and grandfather had been transported to Australia as convicts and Davies was born in Melbourne to John Snr. and Elizabeth Davies (née Ellis) following Davies Snr's release. The Davies family moved to Tasmania, where Davies Snr co-founded the ''Hobart Mercury'' and became a prominent citizen of Hobart, including serving in the Tasmanian House of Assembly. Davies and his brother Charles were educated at Melbourne Grammar School and The Hutchins School in Hobart, where he showed great promise as a sportsman. John Gerwyn Davies
John Gerwyn Davies (born 18 November 1959) is a Welsh former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Career Davies began his career with Cardiff City after progressing through the club's youth system. He made his professional debut in 1977 and went on to make seven league appearances during his two years in the first team, being used as cover for first choice goalkeeper Ron Healey. In 1980, he was sold to Hull City for £12,000, spending six years at the club. He also later played for Notts County Notts County Football Club is a professional association football club based in Nottingham, England. John Goldup Davies (8 January 1914 – 11 August 1989) was a British swimmer. Swimming career Davies competed in the men's 200 metre breaststroke at the 1948 Summer Olympics. He represented England and won double gold in the 220 yards Breaststroke and 330 yards medley relay, at the 1938 British Empire Games in Sydney, Australia. At the ASA National British Championships he won the 220 yards breaststroke title in 1946. John Gordon Davies
John Gordon Davies (1919–1990) was the Edward Cadbury Professor of Theology at the University of Birmingham. He was educated at King's School (Chester), Christ Church (Oxford) and Westcott House (Cambridge). He worked in the dockland parish of Rotherhithe before joining the University of Birmingham, and he was also Director of the Institute for the Study of Worship and Religious Architecture in the University. He was born into a family of wine and spirits merchants in Chester and after switching from History to Theology at Oxford, trained for the Anglican Ministry at Cambridge where he met and married (Emily) Mary Tordoff. John Gwynoro Davies
John Gwynoro Davies (1855 - 1935) was a Welsh Methodist minister. His father was minister Evan Davies. He was born in Llanpumpsaint, Carmarthenshire, and attended a local school, where he became a pupil-teacher. At just 20 years of age he was appointed headmaster of Dinas school, Rhondda. A few years later he decided to enter the Calvinistic Methodist ministry, and in 1877 entered Aberystwyth University College. He later moved to North Wales to study at Bala College. In 1887 he was appointed minister of Caersalem, Barmouth, and remained there until his death in 1935.
