John Furley (cricketer)
John Furley (24 March 1847 – 30 June 1909) was an English first-class cricketer. Furley was born at Oakham in March 1847, where he was educated at Oakham School. He made two appearances in first-class cricket. His first appearance came for the North in the North v South fixture of 1875 at Loughborough, with his second appearance coming for an England XI against Gloucestershire at The Oval The Oval, currently known for sponsorship reasons as the Kia Oval, is an international cricket ground in Kennington, located in the borough of Lambeth, in south London. The Oval has been the home ground of Surrey County Cricket Club since ... in 1877. He captained Oakham and Burghley Park Cricket Club. Furley was a wine and spirit merchant on High Street, Oakham. Oakham is the county town of Rutland in the East Midlands of England, east of Leicester, south-east of Nottingham and west of Peterborough. Gloucestershire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Gloucestershire. Founded in 1870, Gloucestershire have always been first-class and have played in every top-level domestic cricket competition in England. The club played its first senior match in 1870 and W. G.
