John Flynn (footballer, Born 1948)
John Edward Flynn (born 20 March 1948) is an English former footballer who played as a defender. Born in Workington, Cumbria he played in the Football League for Workington, Sheffield United and Rotherham United, spending the majority of his career in Sheffield where he made over 230 appearances for United. Playing career Flynn began his senior career with his home town club of Workington, with whom he made his league debut as a 17-year-old amateur in December 1966. Having made occasional first-team appearances for the following eighteen months, Flynn was released in the summer of 1968. Flynn had intended to move to South Africa but a car accident delayed the move and Workington, having changed their manager, offered Flynn a new contract, prompting him to stay in England. Flynn was spotted playing in Workington's reserves by Sheffield United's then general-manager John Harris and the club duly signed him for £5,000 in July 1969. Workington is a coastal town and civil parish at the mouth of the River Derwent on the west coast in the Allerdale borough of Cumbria, England. The town was historically in Cumberland. David Powell (footballer, Born 1944)
David Powell (born 15 October 1944) is a Welsh former footballer who played as a defender. Born in Dolgarrog, Wales he played for Wrexham, Sheffield United and Cardiff City before being forced to retire through injury. He also represented Wales at full international level, winning eleven caps. Career Club career Having played with local side Gwydir Rovers as a youth, Powell was taken on as an apprentice by Wrexham in January 1962 where he worked as a member of the ground staff. By May 1968 he had graduated to the first team and was handed his first professional contract, going on to make 134 appearances for the Welsh club. Powell was signed by Sheffield United in September 1968 for a fee of £28,500. He became a regular in United's defence for the following three seasons, being voted the club's Player of the Year in 1969, and was an integral part of the side that gained promotion to the English top-flight in 1971. The Probation Service (formerly the National Probation Service) for England and Wales is a statutory criminal justice service, mainly responsible for the supervision of offenders in the community and the provision of reports to the criminal courts to assist them in their sentencing duties. It was established in its current form by the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act in April 2001, but has existed since 1907 as a set of area-based services interacting at arm's length with central government. Eddie Colquhoun
Edmund Peter Skirving Colquhoun (; 29 March 1945 – 16 April 2023) was a Scottish footballer who played as a centre back for Sheffield United and Scotland. Known to players and fans as Eddie Colquhoun, he started his professional football career with Bury in 1962. He made 81 league appearances and scored twice for them. He moved on to West Bromwich Albion in 1967. During his time at the club West Brom won the 1967-68 FA Cup but Colquhoun missed the final against Everton through injury. In 1968, Sheffield United had just been relegated to the Second Division. Their manager at the time was Arthur Rowley, and he signed Colquhoun from West Brom for £27,500. Colquhoun made his debut for Sheffield United against Huddersfield Town on 19 October 1968. John Harris (footballer Born 1917)
John Harris (30 June 1917 – 24 July 1988Sheffield United official matchday programme, 3 September 1988) was a Scottish footballer nicknamed "Gentleman John". Playing career Harris was the son of former Scottish international centre-forward and Newcastle United player Neil Harris. He played for Swindon Town before moving to Swansea Town in 1934 when the side was managed by his father. In 1939, he played for both Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Like most players in his era, his Football League appearance tally is much lower than it would have been had the war not broken out but he continued to play for several years afterwards. Between 1939 and 1943, he made 121 guest appearances for Southampton, scoring 15 goals. Harris also played once for Scotland in a wartime international. The Football League
The English Football League (EFL) is a league of professional football clubs from England and Wales. Founded in 1888 as the Football League, the league is the oldest such competition in the world. It was the top-level football league in England from its foundation until 1992, when the top 22 clubs split from it to form the Premier League.
