John Field (American Football)
John W. Field (September 26, 1886 – May 3, 1979) was an American football player and coach. Field played college football for Yale University from 1908 to 1910 and was captain of Yale's football team. He also served as the head coach of the 1911 Yale football team. He later worked for more than 60 years as manufacturer of corsets and lingerie. Early years Field was born in Viroqua, Wisconsin, in 1886. His father, Walter S. Field (born October 1856), was a Wisconsin native and an attorney. His mother, Emma (Tourjee) Field (born October 1858), was also a Wisconsin native. He moved with his family to Oklahoma as a boy. At the time of the 1900 United States Census, Field was living with his parents and three sisters (Eva, Ruth and Luella) in Washington, D.C.. John Osbaldiston Field
Sir John Osbaldiston Field (30 October 1913 – 1985) was a British colonial administrator who was the last Resident Commissioner of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands from 9 January 1970 and then, from 1 January 1972, the first Governor of this Crown Colony. Field was one of three children of Frank Osbaldiston Field of Gosport, Hampshire and Gertrude Caroline Perrin of Natal, South Africa. He was educated at Stellenbosch Boys School in South Africa and Magdalene College, Cambridge. From 1963 to 1969, he also was the British Governor of Saint Helena. John Field Simms
John Field Simms Jr. (December 18, 1916 – April 11, 1975) was an American politician and lawyer from the state of New Mexico who served as the 16th Governor of New Mexico. Early life and education Simms was born in Albuquerque on December 18, 1916. He graduated from New Mexico Military Institute in 1933 and from the University of New Mexico in 1937. In 1940, he received his LL.B. degree from Yale Law School. Career During World War II, Simms joined the United States Army Air Forces. He served until the end of the war, primarily in England, and carried out staff assignments at Eighth Air Force headquarters and Air Service Command headquarters. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in June 1945, and left the service soon afterwards. Simms practiced law in addition to owning and operating his family's ranching business. John Edwin Field FRS (20 September 1936 – 21 October 2020) was an experimental physicist whose research focused on the physics and chemistry of solids, particularly involving energetic phenomena and materials, covering a variety of topics from erosion to explosives. Following his undergraduate studies in physics at University College London, John moved to the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, undertaking his PhD in the Physics and Chemistry of Solids Group. John remained at Cambridge for the rest of his career which included terms as Head of the Physics and Chemistry of Solids Group and Deputy Head of the Cavendish Laboratory. He commanded the 2/12th Battalion in the Middle East and Milne Force and the 7th Brigade in New Guinea.
