John Farrands
Dr John Law Farrands (11 March 1921 – 14 July 1996) was a scientist and senior Australian Public Servant. Life and career John Farrands was born on 11 March 1921 in Melbourne. He studied part-time at University of Melbourne for his Bachelor of Science, majoring in physics and mathematics. Farrands was the Chief Defence Scientist and he was Secretary of the Australian Government science department between 1977 and 1981. Farrands retired from the Australian Public Service on Christmas Eve 1981. Farrands died in Melbourne on 14 July 1996. Hugh Ennor
Sir Arnold Hughes "Hugh" Ennor (10 October 1912 – 14 October 1977) was a senior Australian public servant and policymaker. Life and career Ennor was born in Melbourne, the son of a joiner. For schooling, he attended a local Roman Catholic school, O'Neill College in Elsternwick, Victoria and later RMIT University, Melbourne Technical College. He graduated from the University of Melbourne as a Bachelor of Science with first class honours in 1938, achieving a Master of Science in 1939 and a Doctor of Science in 1944 at the same university. During the Second World War, Ennor was engaged by Australian Chemical Warfare Research in top secret trials in northern Queensland of mustard gas protective clothing and other counter-measures. He and fellow-biochemist J. W. Legge designed and oversaw the construction of a 100 cubic metre (3,500 cu ft) stainless-steel temperature-controlled gas chamber as part of these experiments. William John McGregor "Greg" Tegart is a former senior Australian public servant. He is currently an adjunct professor at Victoria University. Early life Greg Tegart was born on 27 March 1929. He was educated at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, University of Melbourne and University of Sheffield. Career Tegart first joined the Australian Public Service in 1947 as Laboratory Assistant and Technical Officer with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation. He was appointed Secretary of the Department of Science and Technology in 1981. Tegart retired from the public service in 1993. Robert Broughton Lansdown (9 May 1921 – 6 May 2006) was a senior Australian public servant and policymaker. Life and career Bob Lansdown was born on 9 May 1921 in East Maitland. At the age of 14, he first joined the Australian Public Service, as a post office bicycle messenger in Strathfield. During World War II, Lansdown joined the Second Australian Imperial Force, serving in the Middle East and New Guinea. Lansdown first rejoined the Australian Public Service in 1950 as a Private Secretary in the Prime Minister's Department. In December 1972 Lansdown was appointed Secretary of the Department of Urban and Regional Development and he remained head of the department when it was transitioned to Department of Environment, Housing and Community Development. The Department of Science was an Australian government department that existed between December 1975 and December 1978. It was the second so-named Australian Government department.
