John F. Gordon
John Fawcett Gordon PC(NI) (13 May 1879 – 21 June 1965) was a politician in Northern Ireland. Son of William James Gordon and Margaret Fawcett. Husband of Charlotte Banks. Born in the Belfast area, Gordon was sent to live with relatives in the US after his father died and was educated at Falls River School, Massachusetts, United States. He was manager of flax camps and a member of Belfast Corporation from 1920 to 1923. He was the Ulster Unionist Party Member of Parliament (MP) in the Northern Ireland parliament for Antrim and then Carrick from 1921 to 1943. He served as Minister of Labour (Northern Ireland) The Minister of Labour for Northern Ireland was a member of the Executive Committee of the Privy Council of Northern Ireland ( Cabinet) in the Parliament of Northern Ireland which governed Northern Ireland from 1921 to 1972. William Grant (Northern Ireland Politician)
Rt. Hon. William Grant (6 April 1883 – 15 August 1949) was a Unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Born at 110 Earl Street in Belfast, son of linen worker Martin Grant and Mary Ann Gibson, Grant worked as a shipwright and was a founder member of the Ulster Unionist Labour Association. He was also a founder member of the Ulster Volunteers. He was elected to the Northern Ireland House of Commons as an Ulster Unionist Party member for Belfast North in 1929, then winning Belfast Duncairn in 1929, holding this until his death. Grant became Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour in 1938, then Minister of Public Security in 1941. As a cabinet post, this carried with it membership of the Privy Council of Northern Ireland. Ulster (; ga, Ulaidh or ''Cúige Uladh'' ; sco, label= Ulster Scots, Ulstèr or ''Ulster'') is one of the four traditional Irish provinces. It is made up of nine counties: six of these constitute Northern Ireland (a part of the United Kingdom); the remaining three are in the Republic of Ireland. It is the second-largest (after Munster) and second-most populous (after Leinster) of Ireland's four traditional provinces, with Belfast being its biggest city. Unlike the other provinces, Ulster has a high percentage of Protestants, making up almost half of its population. English is the main language and Ulster English the main dialect. A minority also speak Irish, and there are Gaeltachtaí (Irish-speaking regions) in southern County Londonderry, the Gaeltacht Quarter, Belfast, and in County Donegal; collectively, these three regions are home to a quarter of the total Gaeltacht population of Ireland.
