John Dunne (Gaelic Footballer)
John "Tull" Dunne (26 December 1911 – 12 May 1990) was an Irish Gaelic football coach, player, referee and Gaelic games administrator. His football championship career at senior level with the Galway county team lasted ten seasons from 1932 until 1941. Born in Brackernagh, Ballinasloe, County Galway, Dunne was the second child and eldest son born to William and Katie Dunne (née Donelan). The son of a carpenter, he was educated locally before finding employment in the local post office. Dunne first played competitive Gaelic football with the St Grellan's club. He first played for the senior team at the age of seventeen, winning a county senior championship medal in his debut season in 1929. Dunne won three more county senior championship medals. St Grellan's GFC
St Grellan's Gaelic Football Club ( ga, Cumann Peile Ghrealláin Naofa) was a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Ballinasloe, County Galway, Ireland. The team was named in honour of Saint Grellan, patron saint of Ballinasloe. St Grellan's GFC were the first club to win a record seven Galway county football titles in a row from 1913 to 1919 and were undefeated in the county championship from 1913 to 1930. In 1980, they were also the first Galway Club to reach an All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship in 1980. On 1 December 2005, St Grellan's merged with Ballinasloe Hurling Club to form Ballinasloe GAA. Bill Delaney
Bill Delaney (11 June 1915 – 2000) was a famous Gaelic footballer from Laois. His death at the age of 85 in July 2000 reminded of a decades-long career in the GAA as a player, referee and administrator. Career From a famous footballing family he played Gaelic football at club, county and provincial level during the 1930s and 1940s and was regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. Miko Doyle
Miko Doyle (8 April 1911 – 29 September 1980) was an Irish people, Irish sportsperson. He played Gaelic football and hurling with his local club Austin Stacks and was Kerry GAA, Kerry senior inter-county team member from 1929 until 1939. He won five All Ireland medals with Kerry GAA, Kerry during his playing days, four of them by age 21. He was captain of the 1937 winning team. He also won three National Football League titles. At the time Austin Stacks were one of the main teams in Kerry GAA, Kerry in both football and hurling and Doyle won County Championships with both, five in football and four in hurling. Captain (Gaelic Games)
A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. Before the start of a match, a coin toss between captains of the opposing teams is used to determine which end of the ground each team will kick to. Tom O'Connor (Gaelic Footballer)
Thomas O'Connor (3 November 1918 – 26 February 1997) was an Irish Gaelic footballer. At club level he played with Dingle GAA club and was an All-Ireland Championship-winning captain with the Kerry senior football team. Playing career Born in Dingle, O'Connor first enjoyed footballing success at provincial level as a student with Dingle CBS. He progressed to inter-county level as captain of the Kerry minor football team that lost to Louth in the 1936 All-Ireland final. O'Connor was a late addition to the Kerry senior team the following year and claimed his first All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medal after coming on as a substitute in the replay defeat of Cavan. In some team sports, a selector is a member of a selection panel which chooses teams or individuals to represent a country or club or other representative team in sporting competitions.
