John Ducey Park
John Ducey Park was a 6,500-seat baseball stadium in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Originally built in 1933, it was torn down after sixty years of use in 1995 and replaced by Telus Field on the same site. Beginning in 1981, John Ducey Park was the home field for the AAA Edmonton Trappers of the Pacific Coast League. The stadium was originally known as ''Renfrew Park'', but was renamed in later years for John Ducey, an Edmonton baseball executive, promoter, general manager, scout and coach. Prior to Renfrew Park, Diamond Park was Edmonton's main baseball field. The field could hold a maximum of 2,500 spectators by law. John Ducey Park was the site where in 1982 Ron Kittle of the Trappers hit his 50th home run of the season in the last game of the year. Kittle was named Minor League Player of the Year. Ron Kittle
Ronald Dale Kittle (born January 5, 1958) is an American former left fielder and designated hitter in Major League Baseball (MLB). He was known for his home run hitting power, and was named the 1983 Major League Baseball Rookie of the Year Award, AL Rookie of the Year. Kittle played for the Chicago White Sox (1982–86, 1989, 1991), New York Yankees (1986–87), Cleveland Indians (1988) and Baltimore Orioles (1990). He batted and threw right-handed. Kittle was also a manager for the minor league Schaumburg Flyers. Career A former steelworker who made his MLB debut at nearly 25 years old, Kittle was a popular player on the 1983 "1983 Chicago White Sox season, winning ugly" Chicago White Sox when they won 99 games and made their first playoff appearance since the 1959 World Series. 1990 Baseball World Cup
The 1990 Baseball World Cup (BWC) was the 31st international Men's amateur baseball tournament. The tournament was sanctioned by the International Baseball Federation, which titled it the Amateur World Series from the 1938 tournament through the 1986 AWS. The tournament was held, for the only time, in Canada from August 4 to 19. Cuba defeated Nicaragua in the final to win its 20th title. There were 12 participating countries, with all games played at the John Ducey Park in the city of Edmonton. The next eight competitions were also held as the BWC tournament, then was replaced in 2015 by the quadrennial WBSC Premier12.
