John Drake (died c. 1433) was one of the most celebrated medieval Mayors of Dublin. John Drake (died 1628)
John Drake (c.1556 – 11 April 1628) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1614 and 1626. Drake was the eldest son of Sir Bernard Drake, of Ash and Mount Drake, Devon. He matriculated at Hart Hall, Oxford in 1573, aged 17 and studied law at the Middle Temple in 1578. He succeeded his father in 1586. He sat on the bench as Justice of the Peace for Devon by 1601 to his death and for Dorset from 1614 to his death. He was appointed High Sheriff of Devon for 1604–05 and deputy-lieutenant for Devon from 1614 to his death. He was a member of the Virginia Company from 1612 and the New England Company from 1620. In 1614, he was elected Member of Parliament for Devon. He was re-elected MP for Devon in 1621 and 1624. In 1625 he was elected MP for Lyme Regis. He was elected MP for Devon again in 1626. John Drake (privateer)
John Drake (c. 1560–1600s) was an English privateer who attempted an ill-fated incursion against the Spanish Empire on the shores of the Río de la Plata. He was the nephew of Francis Drake. Biography Around 1583, John Drake and his crew departed from the port of Plymouth to the south of the Atlantic Ocean. The ship under his command, The 40-ton bark ''Francis'', was part of the Edward Fenton expedition to the Pacific. After their victory at the battle of São Vicente and the subsequent split of the English force, Drake headed to the Rio de la Plata. The ''Francis'' was wrecked on the mouth of the river, in a shoal later known in Spanish as ''Banco Inglès'' after this incident. He and his men were captured by Charrúa natives in today's Uruguayan coast, with whom they remained captive for some time. Only Drake and his second-in-command survived the ordeal to reach Buenos Aires where both of them were arrested by the Spanish authorities, being sent to the city of Santa Fe. ... Sir John Drake, 1st Baronet
Sir John Drake, 1st Baronet (4 April 1625 – 6 July 1669) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1660. Drake was the son of Sir John Drake of Mount Drake and Ashe, and his wife Eleanor Boteler, daughter of John Boteler, 1st Baron Boteler of Brantfield. In 1660, Drake was elected Member of Parliament for Bridport in the Convention Parliament. He was created baronet of Ashe, in the County of Devon on 31 August 1660. Drake died at the age of 44. Drake married, firstly, Jane Yonge, daughter of Sir John Yonge, 1st Baronet, and, secondly, Dionysia Strode, daughter of Sir Richard Strode of Newnham. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. John Poad Drake
John Poad Drake (1794–1883) was an inventor and artist from Stoke Damerel, in present-day Devon. He worked at the Plymouth Dockyard. He later painted in Halifax, Nova Scotia (1815), Montreal and New York. He later returned to England and patented a new system for drilling screws at the shipyard. He is a descendant of Sir Francis Drake. Drake was a student of the Royal Academy in London. Drake's painting of the Last Supper hangs in the new Christ Church Cathedral, on St. Catherine Street, Montreal (1825).
