John Dowling (rugby League)
John Dowling (born 3 April 1953) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. Biography Murwillumbah hooker came to Brisbane Easts in 1972 before joining Wynnum-Manly in 1974. A Queensland rep against France in 1977, John Dowling ventured to the St. George Dragons in 1979 under the coaching of Harry Bath but missed the club's grand final success that year because of injury. He went on to play in three Rugby League State of Origin matches for Queensland in 1982 before returning to Brisbane at the end of the 1984 season. Murwillumbah ( ) is a town in far north-eastern New South Wales, Australia, in the Tweed Shire, on the Tweed River (New South Wales), Tweed River. Sitting on the south eastern foothills of the McPherson Range in the Tweed Volcano valley, Murwillumbah is 848 km north-east of Sydney, 13 km south of the Queensland border and 132 km south of Brisbane. The State of Origin series is an annual best-of-three rugby league series between two Australian state representative sides, the New South Wales Blues and the Queensland Maroons. Harry Bath (28 November 1924 – 4 October 2008), born Alfred Henry Bath, also known by the nickname of "The Old Fox", was an Australian rugby league footballer and coach who was prominent and influential in the mid-20th century. The Brisbane Tigers are a rugby league club based at Langlands Park, in the suburb of Coorparoo in Brisbane, Australia. Since 1996, they have competed in the Queensland Cup, having competed in the Brisbane Rugby League from 1934 to 1997, where they won eight premierships. The Wynnum-Manly Seagulls are an Australian rugby league football club based at Kougari Oval, in Brisbane's bayside suburb of Manly West, which neighbours the suburb of Wynnum. They competed in the Brisbane Rugby League from 1951 to 1997. Since 1996 they have competed in the Queensland Cup. Their jersey is red, green and white. From 1995 to 2005 they were known as the Wynnum Seagulls. History Wynnum-Manly first played in the Brisbane premiership in 1931, but withdrew from the competition after two seasons due to the Great Depression.
