John Frederick Donahue ("Jiggs") (April 19, 1894 – October 3, 1949) was a right fielder in Major League Baseball who played briefly for the Boston Red Sox during the 1923 season. Listed at , 170 lb., Donahue was a switch-hitter and threw right-handed. He was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts. John Augustine Donahue (July 13, 1879 – July 19, 1913) was an American Major League Baseball first baseman and catcher with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee Brewers / Baltimore Orioles, St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox and the Washington Senators (1901–60), Washington Senators between 1900 and 1909. Donahue was born in Springfield, Ohio. He batted and threw left-handed. Donahue had his greatest success from 1904 to 1908, after switching to first base for the Chicago White Sox. John Stephen Michael "Deacon" Donahue (June 23, 1920 – March 6, 2008) was a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who played from 1943 through 1944 for the Philadelphia Phillies. John Donahue (c. 1806 – 1 September 1830), also spelled Donohoe, and known as Jack Donahue and Bold Jack Donahue, was an Irish-born bushranger in Australia between 1825 and 1830. He became part of the notorious "Wild Colonial Boys". Early life and transportation Donahue was born in Dublin, Ireland c.1806. An orphan, he began pick-pocketing and, after later involvement in a burglary, was convicted of ''intent to commit a felony'' in 1823. After being detained aboard HMS Surprise, a convict hulk moored in Cork, in September 1824, he was transferred to the ship ''Ann and Amelia'' and transported with 200 other prisoners to Australia, arriving in Sydney in January 1825. Upon being shown his cell at Carter's barracks, Donahue remarked 'A home for life'. During his early imprisonment, he was twice sentenced to fifty lashes as punishment. John J. Donahue (December 30, 1904 – November 10, 1984) was an American football player and coach. Playing career Donahue played guard on the Peabody High School football team. He played guard and tackle for Boston College from 1922 to 1925 and was captain his senior year. On August 9, 1926, he signed with the Providence Steam Roller. He played in 13 games (9 starts) for the team at left guard. Donahue later played semi-pro football for the University of Peabody and Pere Marquette. In addition to playing football, Donahue was also a member of the Boston College Eagles baseball team and a boxer. Coaching career In 1928, Donahue joined the faculty of East Bridgewater High School as head football coach and history teacher. Jonathan Daniel Donahue (born May 6, 1966) is an American rock musician. He is best known as the frontman and a founding member of Mercury Rev, with whom he has released nine studio albums since 1991. He is also a former member of The Flaming Lips and recorded two albums with the group in the early 1990s. Career Donahue helped form Mercury Rev, along with vocalist/ guitarist David Baker, bassist Dave Fridmann, guitarist and clarinetist Grasshopper (born Sean Mackowiak), rooster-tail bass flutist Suzanne Thorpe, and drummer Jimy Chambers, in the late 1980s as a source to create soundtracks to the members' personal student films. The members were further encouraged to explore their talents by their mentor, minimalist composer and multimedia artist Tony Conrad. Donahue also doubled as a concert promoter in Buffalo.
