John Dickenson (author)
John Dickenson ( 1570–1636) was an English author, known as a romance-writer. He was a follower in the school of John Lyly and Robert Greene (dramatist), Robert Greene. He worked for a time in the Low Countries, and Germany. Employed by George Gilpin and Ralph Winwood, he may have been a spy, and certainly was an agent of the government on the ground at the time of the War of the Jülich succession of 1610. He was employed on further missions, in Poland and Scandinavia. John Dickenson (Canadian Politician)
John Dickenson (1847 – 1932) was a Hamilton, Ontario contractor and political figure. He represented Wentworth South in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1896 to 1904 as a Liberal member. Dickenson was born at Hayden Bridge-on-Tyne, Northumberland, England, the son of Edward Dickenson. He went to Glanford Township, Canada West with his family in 1855, and learned the trades of bricklaying and masonry from his father. In 1871, he married Angela Young. He was president of the Kramer Irwin Paving Company. He was also involved in the construction of a number of buildings throughout the province. Dickenson was a member of the township council for Glanford, serving as reeve in 1887, and was warden for Wentworth County in 1891. He was secretary-treasurer for the South Wentworth Agricultural Society and served ten years as superintendent of the Great Central Fair in Hamilton. John Calhoun Dickenson
John Calhoun Dickenson (December 4, 1815 - July 18, 1890) was a Virginia planter and politician who served in both chambers of the Virginia General Assembly, including in the Virginia Senate during the American Civil War and after Congressional Reconstruction ended, and is usually referred to with the honorific "Colonel", perhaps alluding to his service with the Home Guard during the American Civil War. Early and family life He was born in Old Town in Grayson County, Virginia, to merchant Martin Dickenson (d. 1834) and his wife Mary, who survived her husband by 25 years. He had two brothers and six sisters, and farmed both on Elk Creek and near Oldtown in Grayson County.
