John Dewar, 1st Baron Forteviot
John Alexander Dewar, 1st Baron Forteviot (6 June 1856 – 23 November 1929) was a Scottish businessman, elder son of the founder of Dewar's Scotch Whisky and a Liberal Member of Parliament. He is buried with his family in the family plot at Aberdalgie just west of Perth, near the family seat of Dupplin. Family John Dewar Jr. was the son of John Dewar, Sr. and Jane Gow, and older brother of Thomas Dewar, 1st Baron Dewar. He married Elsie Johann (Joan) Tod (fourth daughter of Lord Forteviot of Dupplin) in 1884, however, she died in 1899. In 1905, he married Margaret Elizabeth Holland, daughter of Henry Holland. The House of Commons is the lower house of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Like the upper house, the House of Lords, it meets in the Palace of Westminster in London, England. Baron Forteviot
Baron Forteviot, of Dupplin in the County of Perth, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created 4 January 1917 for the Scottish businessman and Liberal Member of Parliament, Sir John Dewar, 1st Baronet. He was Chairman of the Scotch Whisky distilling company John Dewar and Sons and also represented Inverness-shire in the House of Commons. Dewar had already been created a baronet, of the City of Perth, on 24 July 1907. Since 1993, the titles have been held by his grandson, the fourth Baron. The name Forteviot comes from the historic village, the last Pictish capital of Scotland. Kenneth MacAlpin, King of the Scots, died at Forteviot in 859. Thomas Morison, Lord Morison
Thomas Brash Morison (21 November 1868 – 28 July 1945) was a Scottish politician and judge. In March 1922 he was created a Senator of the College of Justice with the title of Lord Morison. Life Morison was born in Edinburgh. He studied law at the University of Edinburgh where he obtained an MA and LLD. He was called to the bar in Scotland in 1891 and then in England in 1899. He took silk in October 1906. He was knighted in 1906. He was senior Advocate-Depute, 1908–1910 and Deputy Chairman of the Fishery Board for Scotland, 1910–1913. During the same period he also held the post of Sheriff of Fife and Kinross. He was made a Bencher of Gray's Inn in 1920. In Edinburgh he lived at 24 Heriot Row in the New Town. James Evan Bruce Baillie, MVO, JP, DL (1859 – 6 May 1931) was Unionist MP for Inverness-shire. Highlands And Islands Medical Service
The Highlands and Islands Medical Service (HIMS) provided state funded healthcare to a population covering half of Scotland's landmass from its launch in 1913 until the creation of Scotland's National Health Service (NHS) in 1948. Though treatment was not free, unlike NHS Scotland which succeeded it, fees were set at minimal levels and people could still get treated even if they were unable to pay. Foundation The service came into being as a direct result of the publication of the Report of the Highlands and Islands Medical Service Committee or "Dewar Report" in 1912. This report exposed inadequate medical and nursing services across large parts of the crofting counties and recommended a new way of delivering state funded medical services.
