John D. Stewart (politician)
John David Stewart (August 2, 1833 – January 28, 1894) was a United States House of Representatives, U.S. Representative from Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia. Born near Fayetteville, Georgia, Stewart attended the common schools and Marshall College, Griffin, Georgia. Stewart taught school for two years in Griffin, Georgia. He studied law, and was Admission to the bar in the United States, admitted to the bar in 1856 and commenced practice in Griffin, Georgia. He served as Probate Judge of Spalding County from 1858 to 1860, and as a lieutenant and the captain in the Thirteenth Georgia Regiment of the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War, Civil War. American Civil War
The American Civil War (April 12, 1861 – May 26, 1865; also known by other names) was a civil war in the United States. It was fought between the Union ("the North") and the Confederacy ("the South"), the latter formed by states that had seceded. The 51st United States Congress, referred to by some critics as the Billion Dollar Congress, was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives.
