John D. Payne
John D. Payne is an American politician who served as a Republican member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 106th District and was elected in 2002. Payne served on the House Liquor Control, Local Government, and Tourism and Recreational Development Committees. Career Prior to his tenure as a state representative, Payne was Derry Township supervisor for 10 years, two of which he was chairman. He was a member of the Derry Township Sewer Authority for 10 years and served as chairman in 1998. He also served on the Derry Township Library Board for five years. Derry Township is a township in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 24,796 at the 2020 census, an increase over the figure of 24,679 tabulated in 2010. Hershey, the site of the well-known Hershey's chocolate factory and its affiliated amusement park, are located within the township. Pennsylvania State University's Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and the Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital are also located on a large tract of land in the township. History The Township of Derry was incorporated on August 1, 1729, when Lancaster County partitioned its territory for tax purposes. At that time, the boundaries of Derry Township were much larger and included what are currently three other townships within Lancaster and Dauphin counties. Richard Winters
Richard Davis Winters (January 21, 1918January 2, 2011) was an American businessman and decorated war veteran who served as a U.S. Army officer during World War II. He is best known for having commanded Easy Company of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Division. He was eventually promoted to major and put in command of the 2nd Battalion. As a first lieutenant, Winters parachuted into Normandy in the early hours of D-Day, June 6, 1944, and later fought across France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and eventually Germany. After the German surrender in May 1945, he left the 506th and was stationed in France, where senior officers were needed to oversee the return home. In 1951, during the Korean War, Winters was recalled to the Army from the inactive list and briefly served as a regimental planning and training officer on staff at Fort Dix, New Jersey.
