Jonathan Crane (politician)
Jonathan Crane (1750 – August 1820) was a militia leader and political figure in Nova Scotia. He fought in the Battle off Cape Split in the American Revolution. He represented Kings County from 1784-1793 and 1799-1818, and Horton Township from 1818 to 1820 in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly. He was born in Lebanon, Connecticut, the son of Silas Crane, and moved to Horton (later Wolfville), Nova Scotia, with his family in 1761. In 1771, Crane married Rebecca Allison there. He was named a justice of the peace in 1783 and a judge in the inferior Court of Common Pleas for King's County in 1815. He also served as colonel in the local militia. Crane was elected to represent Cornwallis in 1820 but died at Grand-Pré before the first session. Jonathan Townley Crane
Jonathan Townley Crane (June 18, 1819 – February 16, 1880) was an American clergyman, author and abolitionist. He was born in Connecticut Farms, in Union Township, New Jersey, and is most widely known as the father of writer Stephen Crane. Early years Crane was the son of William Crane (1778-1830) and Sarah Townley (1776-1830), who both died when he was 11 years old. He was subsequently apprenticed to a trunk maker in Newark. Although raised in the Congregational church, he rejected its deterministic teachings. Accidentally, in 1838, he wandered into a Revival meeting, and was converted to Methodism. Education He graduated from the Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey in 1843 and in 1844 was licensed to preach, after which he was admitted to the New Jersey Annual conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1845. John Thomas Crane (12 February 1868 – 6 August 1948) was an Australian politician. Early life Crane was born in Warialda to grazier John Crane and Elizabeth McGee. He attended Tamworth Grammar School and then the University of Sydney, where he received a Bachelor of Science in 1887. In 1888 he began a stock and station agency at Moree. On 31 July 1891 he married Charlotte Mary Gall, with whom he would have six children. From 1894 he worked as a land agent in addition to his farming. John Crane (comptroller)
John Crane was a soldier and comptroller of works at Berwick-upon-Tweed during the reigns of Elizabeth I and James VI and I. Crane was depute-comptroller at Berwick from around 1570, according his own account. In 1591 he contributed to an estimate of repairs needed at Wark on Tweed Castle. In January 1594 he wrote to Robert Cecil asking for the post of comptroller. He sent an outline of the post's remuneration and argued that a rival, Captain Bowyer, was ineligible for the position as no one should have two offices. Crane was made Clerk of the Check and Musters in February. Despite his petitions, Robert Bowyer was made comptroller, and after him, in 1596 William Selby. He was fired in 2013 and now works for the Government Accountability Project, a non-governmental whistleblower support organization. John Crane (December 7, 1744 – August 21, 1805) was a participant in the Boston Tea Party and a soldier during the American Revolutionary War. Biography Early life Crane, son of Abijah & Sarah (Beverly) Crane, was born December 7, 1744 in Braintree, Massachusetts. He served in the French and Indian War as a substitute for his father, who had been drafted. After the war he became a housewright. He married Mehitable Wheeler in 1767 and opened a shop in Boston. Revolutionary War service Early in the American Revolutionary movement Crane became active in the Sons of Liberty.
