John Conway (cricketer)
John "Jack" Conway (3 February 1842 – 22 August 1909) was an Australian cricketer who played first-class cricket from 1861–62 to 1879–80. He organised the first Test match in March 1877, and Australia's first cricket tour in 1878. He was also an accomplished Australian rules footballer who captained the Carlton Football Club between 1866 and 1871. Career A right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast round-arm bowler, Conway played for Victoria and made ten appearances in first-class matches between 1862 and 1875. He played a single match for Otago in New Zealand in 1880. Conway is best remembered for his work as an organiser and promoter of international cricket. Fyansford, Victoria
Fyansford is a township on the western edge of Geelong, Victoria, Australia, named after Captain Foster Fyans who came to Geelong as a Police magistrate in October, 1837. It is located at the junction of the Barwon and Moorabool rivers. At the 2016 census, Fyansford had a population of 196. Fyansford is one of the earliest places of settlement in the Geelong region. Sydney Donahoo
Sydney John Donahoo (14 April 1871 – 14 January 1946) was an Australian cricketer. He played five first-class cricket matches for Victoria between 1890 and 1896, six for Queensland in 1896–97 and one for a combined Victoria and Queensland side. Donahoo was a nephew of John Conway who was a round-arm fast bowler and managed the first Australian cricket team to tour England in 1878. He attended Wesley College and was a successful sportsman becoming the captain of the schools cricket team and football team and he was described as the "greatest schoolboy batsman Victoria has had." He was also successful in athletics although he was unable to continue in athletics after suffering a serious football accident. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. Arthur Haygarth
Arthur Haygarth (4 August 1825 – 1 May 1903) was a noted amateur cricketer who became one of cricket's most significant historians. He played first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club and Sussex between 1844 and 1861, as well as numerous other invitational and representative teams including an England XI and a pre-county Middlesex. A right-handed bat, Haygarth played 136 games now regarded as first-class, scoring 3,042 runs and taking 19 wickets with his part-time bowling. He was educated at Harrow, which had established a rich tradition as a proving ground for cricketers. He served on many MCC committees and was elected a life member in 1864. Outside his playing career, Haygarth was a noted cricket writer and historian. He spent over sixty years compiling information and statistics. Frank Allan
Francis Erskine Allan (2 December 1849 – 9 February 1917) was an Australian cricketer who represented Victoria in first-class intercolonial matches and made one Test appearance for Australia. A tall, wiry left-arm medium pacer known by the sobriquet "The Bowler of a Century", Allan possessed great spin and a peculiar swerve which he claimed to have developed through his use of boomerangs and waddies growing up amongst Aborigines in the Victorian bush. He was also given the nickname "Kangaroo" because he would jump like a kangaroo to celebrate taking a wicket. Allan began a lifelong association with the South Melbourne Cricket Club in 1866 when he played for the side in his first ever match.
