John Clark (Australian Rower)
John Clark (born 10 January 1948) is an Australian former rower. He was a six-time national champion who competed at world championships and in the men's eight event at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Club and state rowing John Clark was educated at Sydney Grammar School where he took up rowing. He rowed in the Grammar first VIII in both his senior years of 1964 and 1965. He joined the Mosman Rowing Club straight out of school and his senior club rowing was from Mosman. At Sydney University while studying Agricultural Science he also rowed and was seated at 5 in the Sydney University Boat Club senior eight for the 1967 Intervarsity Championships. the Nepean River. In Mosman crews Clark contested both the coxed and the coxless four events at the 1970 Australian Rowing Championships and he won the national title in the coxless four. Mosman Rowing Club
Mosman Rowing Club is an all-level competitive and recreational rowing club on the North Shore of Sydney. Since 2007 the club's facilities have been wholly located at The Spit in Sydney's Middle Harbour, the northern arm of Port Jackson. Mercantile club history Mosman's red and white hooped racing colours date back to 1873 when the Mercantile Rowing Club was founded on the west side of Sydney's Circular Quay at Dawes Point. A meeting of warehousemen and merchants' clerks had decided to form a second club the second in the colony (after Sydney Rowing Club). Henry Woolnough was the club's first chairman, he had earlier been a committee member at Sydney. Mercantile's first patron was the Governor of the New South Wales, Sir Hercules Robinson. Mercantile enjoyed a strong patronage but began to struggle in the 1890s and sustained losses when it opened an unsuccessful branch shed at Parramatta. Terry O'Hanlon
Edward V "Terry" O'Hanlon is an Australian former rowing coxswain. He was seven times an Australian national champion who coxed Australian representative crews at two World Rowing Championships. Club and state rowing O'Hanlon was educated at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill. In his senior year of 1972 he coxed the school's second VIII. His senior club rowing was from the Mosman Rowing Club in Sydney and for a period from the Leichhardt Rowing Club. At the Australian University Championships in 1973, 1974 and 1976 he coxed the Sydney University eight. In 2001 he came out of coxing retirement to steer a UNSW Rowing Club lightweight four at that year's University Championships O'Hanlon coxed crews at the Australian Rowing Championships every year from 1975 to 1982 and then in 1986. Rowing is the act of propelling a human-powered watercraft using the sweeping motions of oars to displace water and generate reactional propulsion. Rowing is functionally similar to paddling, but rowing requires oars to be mechanically attached to the boat, and the rower drives the oar like a lever, exerting force in the ''same'' direction as the boat's travel; while paddles are completely hand-held and have no attachment to the boat, and are driven like a cantilever, exerting force ''opposite'' to the intended direction of the boat. In some strict terminologies, using oars for propulsion may be termed either "pulling" or "rowing", with different definitions for each.
