John Chudleigh
Sir John Chudleigh (1606 – April 1634) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1626. Origins Chudleigh was the eldest son of Sir George Chudleigh, 1st Baronet (d.1656) of Ashton, Devon, (whom he predeceased), and his wife Mary Strode, eldest daughter of Sir William Strode (died 1637), MP, of Newnham, Plympton St Mary, Devon. Career He matriculated at Wadham College, Oxford on 1 June 1621 aged 15 and was awarded BA in 1624 and MA in 1626. He was knighted at Plymouth as a captain on 28 September 1625. Chudleigh Baronets
The Chudleigh Baronetcy, of Ashton in the County of Devon, was a title in the Baronetage of England. It was created on 1 August 1622 for George Chudleigh (d.1656), Member of Parliament for St Michael's, East Looe, Lostwithiel and Tiverton. The title became extinct on the death of the sixth Baronet in 1745. John Chudleigh (born 1606), the elder son of the 1st Baronet predeceased his father, having served as Member of Parliament for East Looe in 1626. Mary Chudleigh, 2nd daughter of the 1st Baronet, married Colonel Hugh Clifford and was the mother of Thomas Clifford, 1st Baron Clifford of Chudleigh, elevated to the peerage in 1672. The wife of the 3rd Baronet was the notable poet Mary, Lady Chudleigh (1656-1710). Paul Speccot
Paul Speccot (died 1643) of Penheale in the parish of Egloskerry in Cornwall, was a Member of Parliament successively for Bossiney, East Looe and Newport all in Cornwall, between 1626 and 1640. Origins He was the second son of Sir John Speccot (c.1561-1644) of Speccot in the parish of Merton, Devon, and of Penheale in Cornwall, a Member of Parliament for St Mawes in Cornwall from 1604, Sheriff of Cornwall in 1622/3, Sheriff of Devon 1614/15, feudal baron of Great Torrington in Devon and lord of the manor of Holsworthy in Devon. His mother (his father's first wife) was Elizabeth Edgcumbe, daughter of Peter Edgcumbe of Mount Edgcumbe in Cornwall. William Murray (MP For East Looe)
William Murray, 1st Earl of Dysart (1600? – December, 1655), was the childhood whipping boy of Charles I of England and later, an adviser to the king. Early life Born about 1600, Murray was son of William Murray (1561?–1616), minister of Dysart, Fife, by his wife Margaret. The father was a younger brother of Alexander Murray of Woodend, and was descended from a younger son of the family of Dollarie, which was a branch of the house of Tullibardine. William's uncle, Thomas Murray, took his nephew to court when a boy, and educated him along with Prince Charles. The latter and Murray were about the same age, and became very intimate. Service to Charles Murray was a Gentleman of the Bedchamber to Prince Charles. On 26 February 1626 he went to fight a duel with Humphrey Tufton. Instead, Murray fought with his own second, Gibson, a Scottish master gunner of the royal artillery and killed him. John Trevor (1563–1630)
Sir John Trevor (1563–1630) was a Welsh politician. He was the second son of John Trevor of Trevalyn, Denbighshire, and the younger brother of Richard Trevor and older brother of Thomas Trevor and Sackville Trevor. He served Charles Howard, 1st Earl of Nottingham, as did his brothers Richard and Sackville. Trevor was keeper of Oatlands Palace, the under-keeper was Ralph Dison. Trevor represented Howard's pocket boroughs (Reigate in 1593 and 1601 and Bletchingley in 1597, 1604, and 1614) in the House of Commons between 1592 and 1621. In 1598 he became Surveyor of the Queen's Ships, and in 1603 he was knighted. In 1621 he was elected MP for Bodmin and in 1625 for East Looe. He was a Gentleman Usher of the Privy Chamber by 1603 and a Gentleman of the Privy Chamber from 1625. East Looe (UK Parliament Constituency)
East Looe was a parliamentary borough represented in the House of Commons of England from 1571 to 1707, in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1797 to 1800, and finally in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1801 until its abolition in 1832. It elected two Members of Parliament (MP) by the bloc vote system of election. It was disenfranchised in the Reform Act 1832. History The borough consisted of the town of East Looe in Cornwall, connected by bridge across the River Looe to West Looe, which was also a parliamentary borough.
