John Christgau
John Frederick Christgau (February 11, 1934 – August 21, 2018) was an American author of fiction and non-fiction. Christgau was born in Crookston, Minnesota. He later moved to California, where he attended San Francisco State University. He taught at several high schools and coached Crestmoor High School's first varsity basketball team, in San Bruno, California. He lived in Belmont, California Belmont is a city in San Mateo County in the U.S. state of California. Robert Thomas Christgau ( ; born April 18, 1942) is an American music journalist and essayist. Among the most well-known and influential music critics, he began his career in the late 1960s as one of the earliest professional rock critics and later became an early proponent of musical movements such as hip hop, riot grrrl, and the import of African popular music in the West. Christgau spent 37 years as the chief music critic and senior editor for ''The Village Voice'', during which time he created and oversaw the annual Pazz & Jop critics poll. The San Mateo Daily Journal is a daily newspaper published six days a week, Monday through Friday plus a combo weekend edition. The newspaper is distributed throughout San Mateo County, California. Operations The Daily Journal's publisher is Jerry Lee and its editor is Jon Mays. A 2007 poll on its website indicated its readers consider it to be politically moderate. It is one of the few independently owned and operated newspapers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Crestmoor High School
Crestmoor High School opened in San Bruno, California in September 1962 to relieve congestion at Capuchino High School and Mills High School. It was the seventh high school to be built by the San Mateo Union High School District, based in San Mateo, California. Construction began in 1960 on a graded plateau in the Crestmoor district of San Bruno and took about two years to complete. The buildings, which are similar in design to those of Aragon High School, Hillsdale High School, and Mills High School, were constructed mostly of steel and glass, featuring expansion systems to provide earthquake resistance. The school, and its similarly designed schools, have been designed in an architectural style described as "postwar techno-optimism". The school was closed in 1980.
