John Chandos (actor)
John Chandos McConnell (27 July 1917 – 21 September 1987) was a Scottish film and television actor. He won a scholarship to RADA in 1936. During the Second World War he served with the Seaforth Highlanders, Parachute Regiment and the GHQ Liaison Regiment. The Long Memory
''The Long Memory'' is a black-and-white 1953 British crime film directed by Robert Hamer and based on the 1951 novel of the same title by Howard Clewes. Filmed at locations such as London Waterloo railway station, the North Kent Marshes on the Thames Estuary, and the dingy backstreets of Gravesend, Kent, mainly Queen Street, its bleak setting and grim atmosphere have led to its acclaim as a British example of film noir. Plot Phillip Davidson boards a boat and embraces Fay Driver. Then he goes down below to try to convince her alcoholic father, Captain Driver, not to involve Fay in his criminal activity. However, Boyd brings aboard Delaney (a man he has agreed to smuggle out of the country) and two henchmen. ''Time Without Pity'' is a 1957 British film noir thriller film about a father trying to save his son from execution for murder. The film was directed by expatriate American Joseph Losey after he was blacklisted in the U.S. during the ( McCarthy / McCarthyism) era. ''Time Without Pity'' was Losey's second film in Britain and his first under his own name. The film stars Michael Redgrave, Ann Todd, Leo McKern, Paul Daneman, Peter Cushing, Alec McCowen and Renee Houston. It was the second film for which British cinematographer Freddie Francis was credited in that craft (the British credit is simply for "photography"). Otto Langmann (1898-1956) was a German pastor and diplomat. In November 1923 he married Ilse Siefert, with whom he had four children. He was appointed parish priest in Mecklenburg. ''The Green Man'' is a 1956 black and white British black comedy film based on the play ''Meet a Body'' by Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat, who produced and adapted the big-screen version. Plot Harry Hawkins is a freelance assassin who is contracted to blow up Sir Gregory Upshott, a prominent and pompous London businessman. By courting Upshott's spinster secretary, Marigold, he learns that his target will be taking one of the firm's typists for a weekend at a seaside hotel called "The Green Man". Hawkins hides a bomb in a radio, which he plans to leave in the hotel lounge. The screenplay concerns a British family living in East Africa, who become embroiled in the Mau Mau Uprising. Plot Alan Howard is returning to his family's farm in Kenya in order to become a farmer. After reuniting with the nurse Mary Crawford, he discovers that his brother David has been murdered by the Mau Mau. The rebels have daubed the word "Simba" (Lion) in his brother's house. Alan also reunites with Mary's parents who disagree on the ideology of the rebellion and the nature of the native Africans.
