John C. McKenzie
John Charles McKenzie (February 18, 1860 – September 17, 1941) was a U.S. Representative from Illinois. Born on a farm near Elizabeth, Woodbine Township, Illinois to a Scottish immigrant father, McKenzie attended the common schools, and the normal school at Valparaiso, Indiana. He taught school in Jo Daviess County, Illinois for six years. He engaged in the grain, flour, and feed business. He studied law. He was admitted to the bar in 1890 and commenced the practice of his profession in Elizabeth, Illinois. He served as director of the Elizabeth Exchange Bank. He served as member of the State house of representatives 1892-1896. He served as member of Illinois Claims Commission 1896-1900. He served in the State senate from 1900 until his resignation on May 11, 1911, and was president pro tempore 1903-1905. The 68th United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1923, to March 4, 1925, during the last months of Warren G. Harding's presidency, and the first years of the administration of his successor, Calvin Coolidge. The Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Area, commonly known as The Shoals, is a metropolitan statistical area in northwestern Alabama including the cities of Florence, Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia, and Sheffield, and the counties of Lauderdale and Colbert. The 2020 Census population for the Shoals is 148,779 and an additional 410,000 commute to the Shoals daily as the economic, social, and educational center of northwest Alabama. The Shoals has also been known as the Tri-Cities and the Quad-Cities by locals. The area is home to the University of North Alabama, located in Florence, and the birthplace of Helen Keller (Tuscumbia) and W.C. Handy (Florence). Muscle Shoals, Alabama
Muscle Shoals is the largest city in Colbert County, Alabama, United States. It is located along the Tennessee River in the northern part of the state and, as of the 2010 census, the population of Muscle Shoals was 13,146. The estimated population in 2019 was 14,575. Both the city and the Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Area (including four cities in Colbert and Lauderdale counties) are commonly called "the Shoals". Northwest Alabama Regional Airport serves the Shoals region, located in the northwest section of the state. Due to its strategic location along the Tennessee River, Muscle Shoals had long been territory of Native American tribes.
