St Ninian's Cathedral, Perth
St. Ninian's Cathedral (Scottish Gaelic: Cathair-eaglais Naomh Ninian) is a cathedral of the Scottish Episcopal Church in the Diocese of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane. History The Scottish Episcopal Church was disestablished in 1689 and all the Scottish cathedrals became the property of the Presbyterian Church either falling into disuse or becoming adapted for the Presbyterian rite. In 1848 two young Scottish aristocrats at Oxford University conceived the idea of reviving cathedrals for the Episcopalians and the London architect William Butterfield was chosen to design a cathedral for Perth. £5751 was raised by subscription and of this less than £150 came from local sources the bulk coming from the families of Lord Forbes and the Hon. Edward Bowles Knottesford
Edward Bowles Knottesford-FortescueFortescue may have used each surname separately at different points in his life. (1816–1877) was an English Anglican priest who converted to Catholicism. Life Edward Fortescue was born in 1816 in Stoke-by-Nayland in Suffolk, the son of Francis Fortescue and his wife Maria, only daughter of the Revd George Downing, rector of Ovington and prebendary of Ely Cathedral. Francis Fortescue inherited the estate of Bridgeton with the manors of Alveston and Teddington from his father's cousin, John Knottesford, who was also godfather to Francis. Upon coming of age, Francis added the name Knottesford, which was a condition of the will. Francis and Maria had two sons, George and Edward. Fortescue's father was ordained in the Church of England. In 1823 the family moved to the family estate at Alveston on the outskirt of Stratford-on-Avon, where Francis Fortescue became rector of the parish of Billesley. Vincent Lewis Rorison
Vincent Lewis Rorison (1851–1910) was an Anglican priest in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Life He was born in 1851 and educated at Trinity College, Glenalmond. He then studied divinity at the University of Aberdeen. Ordained in 1874, he was Chaplain to the Bishop of Aberdeen after which he was Rector (ecclesiastical), Rector of St John's Forfar before being appointed Provost (religion), Provost of St Ninian's Cathedral, Perth in 1885, a post he held for 16 years. His final appointment was as Dean (religion), Dean of Diocese of Saint Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane, St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane. He died on 27 August 1910. Family He was buried with his wife, Edith Alice Susan Stephenson (died 1924) in Wellshill Cemetery in northern Perth. Their daughter Edith Anna Sinclair Rorison lies with them.
