John Brunton (producer)
John Brunton is a Canadian film and television producer, most noted as the longtime chief executive officer of Insight Productions. He first joined the company in 1976 as a carpenter and production assistant, until buying out founders Pen Densham and John Watson a few years later; under Brunton, the company was transformed into one of Canada's leading producers of reality and special events programming, including ''Canadian Idol'',Sarah Hampson"John Brunton" ''The Globe and Mail'', January 3, 2004. The Gemini Awards were awards given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television between 1986–2011 to recognize the achievements of Canada's television industry. The Gemini Awards are analogous to the Emmy Awards given in the United States and the BAFTA Television Awards in the United Kingdom. ''Battle of the Blades'' (or ''BOTB'' for short) is a Canadian figure skating reality show and competition that airs on CBC Television. The show originally aired for four seasons between 2009 and 2013. It was revived for a fifth season in 2019. It was first broadcast before a live audience at the historic Maple Leaf Gardens.
