John Bonham (mercer)
Sir John Bonham (''fl.'' 13th/14th century) was a mercer of the City of London, revered as one of the ''Nine Worthies of London'' by Richard Johnson in his 1592 biography of eminent citizens. According to Johnson's account, Bonham was an apprentice mercer of London, of Devonshire parents. He was entrusted with a valuable cargo bound for Denmark and found favour at the Danish court (then ruled by the House of Oldenburg). While there he was made commander of an army raised to stop the progress of "the great Solyman" during the reign of Edward I of England Edward I (17/18 June 1239 – 7 July 1307), also known as Edward Longshanks and the Hammer of the Scots, was King of England and Lord of Ireland from 1272 to 1307. John Bonham (MP)
Sir John Bonham (–1555) was an English politician. He was the eldest son of John Bonham of Hazelbury. He succeeded his father in 1544 and was knighted by 1553. He was a Member (MP) of the Parliament of England for Chippenham in 1545. He was on the Wiltshire bench as a Justice of the Peace from 1547 and appointed High Sheriff of Wiltshire for 1549–50. He married Anne, the daughter and coheir of Robert Willoughby, 2nd Baron Willoughby de Broke, and widow of Charles Blount, 5th Baron Mountjoy Charles Blount, 5th Baron Mountjoy (28 June 151610 October 1544) was an English courtier and patron of learning. John Bonham (born 25 September 1948) is an Australian former rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s. Playing career Originally from Parkes, New South Wales Parkes is a town in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. It is the main settlement in the local government area of Parkes Shire. Parkes had a population of 11,224 as at 30 June 2018. Estimated resident population, 30 June 2 ... as a Halfback, Bonham was signed by the Newtown club in 1969 and he went on to have four successful seasons with the club.
