John Blumsky
John Patrick Cyril Blumsky (13 November 1928 – 1 August 2013) was a New Zealand journalist and broadcaster, best known for his coverage of the Erebus disaster in 1979. Biography Blumsky was educated at Nelson College from 1943 to 1945.''Nelson College Old Boys' Register, 1856–2006'', 6th edition Before moving into broadcast journalism, he worked as an insurance clerk. In the early 1960s, Blumsky was a broadcaster with station 2XN in Nelson. He was also an active member of the Nelson Operatic Society at that time. He was a member of Johnny Shearer's skiffle group, alongside Cliff Whiting, in 1961. In late 1962, Blumsky was transferred by the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation to Dunedin, where he worked on both radio and the newly established television station DNTV2. Lyttelton (New Zealand Electorate)
Lyttelton is a former New Zealand parliamentary electorate. It existed from 1853 to 1890, and again from 1893 to 1996, when it was replaced by the Banks Peninsula electorate. Population centres The New Zealand Constitution Act 1852, passed by the British government, allowed New Zealand to establish a representative government. The initial 24 New Zealand electorates were defined by Governor George Grey in March 1853. Lyttelton was one of the initial single-member electorates. The electorate was in the eastern suburbs of Christchurch, New Zealand, and included the port of Lyttelton. History The electorate was created in 1853 and existed until 1890. Queen's Service Medal
The Queen's Service Medal is a medal awarded by the government of New Zealand to recognise and reward volunteer service to the community and also public service in elected or appointed public office. It was established in 1975 and is related to the Queen's Service Order. The QSM replaced the Imperial Service Medal as an award of New Zealand. Appearance 1975–2007 The original medal was made of sterling silver, in diameter. The obverse bears the same effigy of The Queen as the badge of the Queen's Service Order. Surrounding the effigy are the Royal styles and titles "ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.". The reverse depicts the New Zealand Coat of Arms surrounded by the inscription "The Queen's Service Medal" and the name of the sub-division either "for Community Service" or "for Public Services".
