John Blankenstein Award
The John Blankenstein Award is the annual gay-emancipation award in The Hague, Netherlands. It highlights the significance of gay men and lesbian women participating and positioning themselves equally in society. The award comprises an art-object designed by local artist Liesbeth Busman (1977) – and a financial grant. History On 12 June 2008, the Municipal Council of The Hague granted a motion to annually present a ‘gay emancipation award’. The motion was an initiative of a representative of the Socialist Party, Tymen Colijn. It would signify the intention of The Hague to profile itself as a gay-friendly city and therefore, this annual gay emancipation award was created. ADO Den Haag
Alles Door Oefening Den Haag (), commonly known by the abbreviated name ADO Den Haag (), is a Dutch association football club from the city of The Hague. They play in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football, following relegation from the Eredivisie in the 2020–21 season. The club was for a time known as FC Den Haag (), with ADO representing the amateur branch of the club. Transgender
A transgender (often abbreviated as trans) person is someone whose gender identity or gender expression does not correspond with their sex assigned at birth. Many transgender people experience dysphoria, which they seek to alleviate through transitioning, often adopting a different name and set of pronouns in the process. Additionally, they may undergo sex reassignment therapies such as hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery to more closely align their primary and secondary sex characteristics with their gender identity. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) movements are social movements that advocate for LGBT people in society. Some focus on equal rights, such as the ongoing movement for same-sex marriage, while others focus on liberation, as in the gay liberation movement of the 1960s and 1970s.
