John Barry-Murphy
John Barry-Murphy (7 January 1892 – 6 January 1975) was an Irish sportsperson. He played hurling at various times with his local clubs Cloughduv and Éire Óg and was a member of the Cork senior inter-county team in the 1910s and 1920s. Playing career Club Barry-Murphy began his hurling career as a member of his local Cloughduv team. Cloughduv and the Bride Valley Club merged in 1928 to form the Éire Óg club. That year Barry-Murphy won his sole senior county championship winners' medal. Inter-county Barry-Murphy first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Cork junior hurling team in 1916. That year he captured a Munster title following a 6-0 t 4–1 defeat of Tipperary. The subsequent All-Ireland final pitted Cork against Kilkenny. Cloughduv GAA
Cloughduv GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association based in the village of Cloughduv in County Cork, Ireland. The club is a member of the Muskerry division of Cork GAA. The club fields hurling team only. There are two Gaelic football clubs in the parish (Kilmurry parish) - Canovee and Kilmurry - and there is often an overlap of players between the different clubs. History Hurling in the area pre-dates the founding of the Gaelic Athletic Association in Thurles in 1884; when the Cork County Board was inaugurated in 1886, 21 clubs attended including Ryecourt GAA represented by Michael J Keane. Shortly thereafter the name was changed to Cloch Dubh. Success was not long in arriving, culminating in 1912 in a great victory in the County Senior Beamish Shield. All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship
The All-Ireland Junior Hurling Championship was a hurling competition organized by the Gaelic Athletic Association in Ireland. The competition was originally contested by the second teams of the strong counties, and the first teams of the weaker counties. In the years from 1961 to 1973 and from 1997 until now, the strong counties have competed for the All-Ireland Intermediate Hurling Championship instead. The competition was then restricted to the weaker counties. The competition was discontinued after 2004 as these counties now compete for the Nicky Rackard Cup instead. From 1974 to 1982, the original format of the competition was abandoned, and the competition was incorporated in Division 3 of the National Hurling League. The original format, including the strong hurling counties was re-introduced in 1983. Cloughduv Hurlers
Cloghduv or Cloghduff ( ; ) is a village in County Cork, Ireland. It has a population of 360 people. The main industry is agriculture, although it is also a commuter village for Cork City. Cloughduv is part of the Dáil constituency of Cork North-West. The village is 1.4 km from the River Bride. Amenities The village of Cloughduv consists of a pub, a shop, a church and a number of housing estates. The former Cloughduv Creamery closed in 2018 after 126 years in business. Mick Neville (hurler Born 1891)
Michael Neville (14 February 1891 – 12 September 1973) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward for the Dublin and Limerick senior teams from 1913 to 1924. Neville made his first appearance for the Dublin team during the 1913 championship and became a regular player over much of the next decade. During that time, he won two All-Ireland winner's medals and four Leinster winner's medals. Neville later joined the Limerick team, winning one Munster winners' medal. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. For the majority of its existence, the All-Ireland Championship has been played on a straight knockout basis whereby once a team loses they are eliminated from the championship. Jimmy Kennedy (Cork Hurler)
James Kennedy (16 April 1891 – 13 August 1973) was an Irish hurler who played as a full-forward for the Cork senior team. Raised in Carrigtwohill, County Cork, Kennedy was one of fourteen children born to Michael and Norah Kennedy (née Reed). The son of a victualler, he was educated locally and later worked as a labourer. Kennedy first played competitive hurling as a member of the Carrigtowhill club. He won a Cork Senior Hurling Championship medal in 1918. Kennedy first appeared on the inter-county scene at the age of twenty-one when he was selected for the Cork team. He made his debut during the 1912 championship. Over the course of the following fifteen years, Kennedy won two All-Ireland medals, the first as captain of the team in 1919 followed by a second as a non-playing substitute in 1926.
