John Barrie (actor)
John Barrie (6 May 191724 March 1980) was an English actor who appeared in a number of television shows and films. He became well known for playing the title character on the police series ''Sergeant Cork'' from 1963–1968 and playing Detective Inspector Hudson on ''Z-Cars'' from 1967–1968. He was born in New Brighton, Cheshire in 1917 and made his screen debut in the 1954 film ''Yankee Pasha''. He retired from acting in the 1970s, and latterly owned a number of grocery shops around York. New Brighton, Merseyside
New Brighton is a seaside resort in Wallasey, Merseyside, England, at the northeastern tip of the Wirral peninsula. It has sandy beaches which line the Irish Sea and mouth of the Mersey, and the UK's longest promenade. At the 2011 Census, the population was 14,859. History Up to the nineteenth century, the area had a reputation for smuggling and wrecking, and secret underground cellars and tunnels are still rumoured to exist. It also had a strategic position at the entrance to the Mersey Estuary. The Perch Rock battery was completed in 1829. It mounted 18 guns, mostly 32-pounders, with 3 6-inch guns installed in 1899. ''Patton'' is a 1970 American epic biographical war film about U.S. General George S. Patton during World War II. It stars George C. Scott as Patton and Karl Malden as General Omar Bradley, and was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner from a script by Francis Ford Coppola and Edmund H. North, who based their screenplay on ''Patton: Ordeal and Triumph'' by Ladislas Farago and Bradley's memoir, ''A Soldier's Story''. ''The Saint'' is a British mystery spy thriller television series that aired in the United Kingdom on ITV between 1962 and 1969. It was based on the literary character Simon Templar created by Leslie Charteris in the 1920s and featured in many novels over the years. In the television series, Templar was played by Roger Moore. Templar helps those whom conventional agencies are powerless or unwilling to protect, often using methods that skirt the law.
