John Barker (English Footballer)
John Barker (4 July 1948 – 2004) was an English professional footballer who made 263 appearances in the Football League playing as a left back for Scunthorpe United. Career Barker was born in Huddersfield, the son of former footballer Jeff Barker. He began his career in the youth system of Scunthorpe United, where his father was a member of the backroom staff, and made his debut in the Fourth Division as a 17-year-old, in April 1966 away at Bournemouth. He scored the equalising goal with a diving header against Sheffield Wednesday as Scunthorpe knocked the First Division club out of the 1970 FA Cup. Barker suffered concussion in the act of scoring, took no further part in the match, and was unaware until afterwards that he had scored a goal. He went on to make more than 300 appearances for the club before retiring from professional football at the early age of 27 to take up a post with the Forestry Commission. Huddersfield
Huddersfield is a market town in the Kirklees district in West Yorkshire, England. It is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Kirklees district. The town is in the foothills of the Pennines. The River Holme's confluence into the similar-sized Colne to the south of the town centre which then flows into the Calder in the north eastern outskirts of the town. The rivers around the town provided soft water required for textile treatment in large weaving sheds, this made it a prominent mill town with an economic boom in the early part of the Victorian era Industrial Revolution. Forestry Commission
The Forestry Commission is a non-ministerial government department responsible for the management of publicly owned forests and the regulation of both public and private forestry in England. The Forestry Commission was previously also responsible for Forestry in Wales and Scotland. However, on 1 April 2013, Forestry Commission Wales merged with other agencies to become Natural Resources Wales, whilst two new bodies (Forestry and Land Scotland and Scottish Forestry) were established in Scotland on 1 April 2019. The Forestry Commission was established in 1919 to expand Britain's forests and woodland, which had been severely depleted during the First World War. Non-League football describes football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). Currently, a non-League team would be any club playing in the National League or below that level. Typically, non-League clubs are either semi-professional or amateur in status, although the majority of clubs in the National League are fully professional, some of which are former EFL clubs who have suffered relegation. The 1969–70 FA Cup was the 89th season of the world's oldest association football, football single-elimination tournament, cup competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup, commonly known as the FA Cup. Football League First Division, First Division Chelsea F.C., Chelsea won the competition for the first time, first drawing with Leeds United 2–2 in the 1970 FA Cup Final, final at Wembley Stadium (1923), Wembley, before winning 2–1 in the replay at Old Trafford. In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield position whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. Sheffield Wednesday Football Club is a professional association football club based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. Football League Fourth Division
The Football League Fourth Division was the fourth-highest division in the English football league system from the 1958–59 season until the creation of the Premier League prior to the 1992–93 season. Whilst the division disappeared in name in 1992, the 4th tier of English football continued as the Football League Third Division, and later became known as Football League Two.
