Jack Baldwin (RAF Officer)
Air Marshal Sir John Eustice Arthur Baldwin, (13 April 1892 – 28 July 1975) was a senior officer in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Early life Educated at Rugby School and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Baldwin was commissioned into the 8th (King's Royal Irish) Hussars in 1911 and served as a cavalry Officer in the First World War. Military service Baldwin was awarded the Royal Aero Club's Aviator's Certificate no. 971 on 17 November 1914 and became a pilot in the Royal Flying Corps. He was appointed Officer Commanding No. 55 Squadron in October 1916 and Officer Commanding No. 41 Wing in December 1917 before transferring to the Royal Air Force on its formation in 1918. He was appointed Commandant of the Central Flying School in 1928 and served as Aide-de-Camp to King George V from 1931 to 1932. John Lee "Johnny" Baldwin (born August 26, 1949 in Detroit) is an American boxer who competed in the Light Middleweight (71 kg) category. He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1968. John Thomas Baldwin
John Thomas Baldwin Jr. (September 5, 1910 – September 3, 1974) was an American botanist. He specialized in cytogenetics of plants and in his early career studied the family Crassulaceae. In 1946 Baldwin was appointed professor at his alma mater, the College of William & Mary. He also worked for the US Department of Agriculture, accompanying their expeditions to Africa. During the 1947–48 US Economic Mission to Liberia Baldwin discovered that ''Strophanthus sarmentosus'' was a natural source of the steroid hormone cortisone and it was subsequently used for the manufacture of drugs. He planted an extensive collection of plants on the college campus, which later botanists claimed to be one of the most important in the country. John Richard Baldwin (born 3 January 1946), better known by his stage name John Paul Jones, is an English musician, composer and record producer who was the bassist and keyboardist for the rock band Led Zeppelin. Prior to forming the band with Jimmy Page in 1968, he was a session musician and arranger. After the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, Led Zeppelin disbanded, and Jones developed a solo career. He has collaborated with musicians across a variety of genres, including the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl and Josh Homme. John Baldwin (16 August 1923 – 28 November 2007) was a British trade union leader. Born in West Ham, Baldwin grew up in Basildon, where he was educated at Laindon Road Secondary School. He joined the Royal Navy in 1938, later moving to serve in the Royal Marines, seeing action in numerous events from the Dunkirk evacuation to the D-day landings. He left the Marines in 1948, and soon became a steel erector, joining the Constructional Engineering Union (CEU). Baldwin came to prominence in the CEU, becoming a shop steward, and then a convener. In 1957, he began working full-time for the union as an organiser, and in 1969 he was elected as its assistant general secretary. In 1971, the CEU became the Construction Section of the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers (AUEW), retaining considerable autonomy. He became general secretary of the section in 1976. John Baldwin (educator)
John Baldwin (October 13, 1799 – December 28, 1884) was an American educator, and the founder of Baldwin Institute (later Baldwin University) in Berea, Ohio, which would eventually merge into Baldwin–Wallace College, now Baldwin-Wallace University. He was also the founder of Baker University and Baldwin City, Kansas, and contributed money to start schools in Bangalore, India that are today called Baldwin Boys High School, Baldwin Girls High School and Baldwin Co-Education Extension High School. Born in Connecticut, Baldwin originally was a teacher in Maryland and Connecticut before moving to Ohio in the late 1820s. He became part of the lyceum movement and situated himself in Berea, Ohio. He opened up Baldwin Institute in 1846 upon seeing the dissolution of the Norwalk Seminary. Nine years later, the Institute became Baldwin University. John Baldwin, Jr. (born October 18, 1973) is an American retired figure skater. With partner Rena Inoue, he is a two-time U.S. national champion. Inoue and Baldwin are the first skaters to perform a throw triple Axel in competition. Personal life Baldwin was born in Dallas, Texas. His parents were both skating coaches. His father, John Baldwin Sr., competed as a single skater in the 1960s. His brother Don Baldwin competed in singles as well. Baldwin attended Poway High School.
