John Baker Hinkson (October 2, 1840 - May 22, 1901) was an American lawyer, businessman and politician from Pennsylvania who served as a Democratic Party (United States), Democratic mayor of Chester, Pennsylvania, Chester from 1893 to 1896. Early life and education Hinkson was born in Chester, Pennsylvania to Joseph H. and Lydia Ann (Edwards) Hinkson. Hinkson graduated from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1860 and a Master of Arts in 1863. He was elected as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society. Hinkson studied law with the Honorable John M. Broomall and was admitted to the Bar association, bar of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Delaware County in August, 1863. Career Hinkson had a private law practice in Chester, Pennsylvania. Chester is a city in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. Located within the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area, it is the only city in Delaware County and had a population of 32,605 as of the 2020 census. Incorporated in 1682, Chester is the oldest city in Pennsylvania and is located on the western bank of the Delaware River between the cities of Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware.
