John Attygalle
John Wilhelmus Lucius Attygalle (1906–1981) was the 16th Inspector General of the Sri Lanka Police (IGP) (1966–1967). Police career Attygalle joined the police force on 1 October 1928 as a Sub-Inspector of Police. In October 1947 he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) as ASP Crimes, Colombo (South) and thereafter was appointed ASP, CID in November 1948; ASP, Ambalangoda January 1950; June 1951 ASP, Colombo Crimes; April 1953 ASP, Western Province (North) and in January 1951 ASP, Jaffna. In January 1962 Attygalle, who was then the Superintendent of Police of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), played a major role in stopping the attempted military coup. Aleric Abeygunawardena
Aleric Lanty Abeygunawardena (1905-1998) was a Sri Lankan Inspector General Police (IGP) (1967–1970). Abeygunawardena was educated at S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia and joined the Ceylon Police Force on 28 September 1931 as a Sub-Inspector of Police. In May 1950 he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and served as ASP Galle and ASP Kalutara. On 8 July 1967 he was appointed as the Inspector General Police, succeeding John Attygalle following his retirement, and served in that position until 13 September 1970. Shri (; , ) is a Sanskrit term denoting resplendence, wealth and prosperity, primarily used as an honorific. The word is widely used in South and Southeast Asian languages such as Marathi, Malay (including Indonesian and Malaysian), Javanese, Balinese, Sinhala, Thai, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Nepali, Malayalam, Kannada, Sanskrit, Pali, Khmer, and also among Philippine languages. Dudley Senanayake
Dudley Shelton Senanayake ( Sinhala: ඩඩ්ලි ශෙල්ටන් සේනානායක: ta, டட்லி சேனநாயக்கா; 19 June 1911 – 13 April 1973), was a Sri Lankan statesman who served as Prime Minister of Ceylon from 1952 to 1953 (first term as the second prime minister of Ceylon), in 1960 (second term) and from 1965 to 1970 (third term) and Leader of the Opposition from 1960 to 1964. Senanayake's tenures as prime minister were associated with democratic socialist policies focused on agricultural and educational reforms with a pro-western alignment. Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP; ) is a Marxist–Leninist communist party and a former militant organization in Sri Lanka. The movement was involved in two armed uprisings against the government of Sri Lanka: once in 1971 (SLFP), and another in 1987–89 ( UNP). The motive for both uprisings was to establish a socialist state. The JVP was initially a small organisation that became a well-organised party that could influence mainstream politics. Its members campaigned openly for the left-wing coalition government, United Front.
