John Atkins (American Football)
Johnathan Bandavious Atkins (born December 21, 1992) is an American football nose tackle for the Memphis Showboats of the United Football League (UFL). He played college football at Georgia, and has been a member of the New England Patriots, Detroit Lions, and Atlanta Falcons. College career Atkins spent five seasons as a member of Georgia Bulldogs, redshirting his freshman year. During his redshirt senior season, Atkins made 38 tackles, including one for a loss, as the Bulldogs' starting nose tackle. He finished his collegiate career with 81 total tackles, 3.5 for loss, five pass deflections and a fumble recovery in 48 games played. Professional career New England Patriots Atkins signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2018. John Atkins (cyclist)
John Atkins (born 7 April 1942), is a British former racing cyclist specialising in cyclo-cross, and 12 times national cyclo-cross champion. He was a professional cyclist between 1968 and 1979. Biography Atkins was born in Coventry, the son of Edith and Roland (Ron) Atkins. His mother was a prolific breaker of long-distance cycling records in the 1950s. John Atkins began cycling on the cleared areas and bomb sites that followed intensive bombing of Coventry in the Second World War. He started racing at 17. He won his first national cyclo-cross championship in 1961 when he was 19. He was in a group of four and passed them by taking a longer route to the right around bushes where the others had ridden to the left. It gave him a few seconds' lead that he held to the finish. He won again in 1962 but was handicapped until 1966 by a stomach ulcer. He dominated cyclo-cross in Britain for the next 10 years. John Atkins (MP)
John Atkins (c. 1754–1838), of Halstead Place, near Sevenoaks, Kent, was an English politician. He started his career at sea before setting up as a West India merchant with his brother Abram. He was elected an Alderman of London in 1808, served as a Sheriff of London for 1809–1810 and as Lord Mayor of London in 1818–1819. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Arundel in 1802–1806 and 1826–1832, and for the City of London in 1812–1818. John Atkins (naval Surgeon)
John Atkins (1685–1757) was an English naval surgeon and writer. Biography Atkins received his professional education as a surgeon's apprentice, and immediately entered the navy. He records wounds which he treated in Sir George Rooke's victory off Málaga in 1704. In 1707 he was in some small actions with the French in the Channel, and in 1711, he served in the man-of-war HMS ''Lion'' at the battle of Vigo Bay. The ship was commanded by Captain Galfridus Walpole, whose right arm was severely wounded. Atkins cut it off above the elbow and sat up two whole nights with the patient afterwards, ‘supposing a tenderness and respect would engage his good opinion and consequently his interest.’ This interested attention did not gain its object, for Captain Galfridus gave no thanks for it, being, as Atkins bitterly observes, ‘the reverse of his brother ( Sir Robert), loving cheapness in all jobs’ (Navy Surgeon, 137). John Alfred Atkins (26 May 1916 – 31 March 2009) was a British writer, playwright, poet and novelist. Career Born at Carshalton, Surrey, to Frank Periam Atkins, a broker, and Dorothy (née Lovell), Atkins graduated B.A. from the Bristol University in 1938. Subsequently, he worked for Mass Observation and later as Assistant and Literary Editor of the left-wing newspaper '' Tribune'', before his call up for war service arrived in 1943. At ''Tribune'' his place was taken by George Orwell. After the war, he worked as a critic specialising in analysing the work of 20th-century writers. He taught in different parts of the world, including Sudan and Poland, and his erudition and breadth of knowledge was immense. He wrote several books for Calder Publishing and other publishers and for the last thirty years of his life was spent quietly in East Anglia. John Black Atkins (5 November 1871 – 1954) was a British journalist. He served as the war correspondent for the '' Manchester Guardian'' in the Spanish–American War, the Greco-Turkish War and in the Second Boer War. He also wrote the biography of William Howard Russell. Life He was the third son of James Bucknell Atkins of Anerley, born on 5 November 1871. John DeWitt Clinton Atkins (June 4, 1825 – June 2, 1908) was an American slave owner, politician and a member of both the United States House of Representatives and Confederate Congress from Tennessee. Biography Johnathan Atkins was born at Manly's Chapel, Tennessee, in Henry County the son of Johnathan Atkins and Sarah (Manley) Atkins. He attended a private school in Paris, Tennessee, graduated from East Tennessee University at Knoxville in 1846. John studied law, and was admitted to the bar, but John did not practice, instead of engaging in agricultural pursuits. He owned slaves. John married Elizabeth Bacon Porter on November 23, 1847. John Tracy Atkyns
John Tracy Atkyns (died 1773) was an English barrister-at-law and compiler of the Atkyns' Reports. Biography Atkyns was the third son of John Tracy, of Stanway, Gloucestershire, and great-grandson of the third Viscount Tracy, of Toddington. His mother was a daughter of Sir Robert Atkyns, lord chief baron, and it was probably on account of the legal eminence of his grandfather that he adopted the name of Atkyns. He entered Lincoln's Inn in 1724, and was called to the bar in 1732. He had matriculated at New College, Oxford in 1724. In 1755 he was appointed cursitor baron of the exchequer. He had taken notes of the cases in the court of Chancery from Hilary term 1736 to Michaelmas term 1754, and he published condensed reports of them in three volumes (1765, 1667, 1668); a second edition appeared 1781/2, and a third, edited by Francis Williams Sanders, in 1794 (see Atkyns' Reports).
