John A. Pollock (professor)
John A. Pollock, is a Full Professor of Biological Science at Duquesne University Bayer School of Natural and Environmental Sciences, where he researches and teaches molecular neurobiology. He is Principal Investigator for The Partnership in Education, a non-profit multidisciplinary health literacy and informal science education project at Duquesne University funded primarily through Science Education Partnership AwardSEPA) from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, a component of the National Institutes of Health. Pollock holds the additional title of co-director for the Chronic Pain Research Consortium at Duquesne University. He serves as a faculty affiliate at thBrainHubat Carnegie Mellon University and separately at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine, University of Pittsburgh/ UPMC. The transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1 (TrpV1), also known as the capsaicin receptor and the vanilloid receptor 1, is a protein that, in humans, is encoded by the ''TRPV1'' gene. It was the first isolated member of the transient receptor potential vanilloid receptor proteins that in turn are a sub-family of the transient receptor potential protein group. The John G. Rangos School of Health Sciences (RSHS) is one of the ten constituent colleges that comprise Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. History On January 29, 1990, Dr. John E. The School of Pharmacy is one of the ten degree-granting divisions that comprise Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The school's first pharmacy class matriculated in September 1925 under the leadership of the founding dean, Dr. Hugh C. Muldoon, and graduated in 1928. In molecular biology, a transcription factor (TF) (or sequence-specific DNA-binding factor) is a protein that controls the rate of transcription of genetic information from DNA to messenger RNA, by binding to a specific DNA sequence. The function of TFs is to regulate—turn on and off—genes in order to make sure that they are expressed in the desired cells at the right time and in the right amount throughout the life of the cell and the organism. Runt-related transcription factor 1 (RUNX1) also known as acute myeloid leukemia 1 protein (AML1) or core-binding factor subunit alpha-2 (CBFA2) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the ''RUNX1'' gene. RUNX1 is a transcription factor that regulates the differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells into mature blood cells. Arrestins (abbreviated Arr) are a small family of proteins important for regulating signal transduction at G protein-coupled receptors.
