Joey Martin (ice Hockey)
Joey Martin (born July 29, 1988) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player for UK Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) side Cardiff Devils. He most recently iced with IceHL side Graz 99ers and was also previously with the Stavanger Oilers in Norway's GET-ligaen. Early life Martin was born in Thorold, Ontario. Martin played junior hockey with the Thorold Blackhawks and Aurora Tigers. Martin played four seasons (2007–2011) of NCAA college hockey with the Nebraska–Omaha Mavericks men's ice hockey team, registering 39 goals, 64 assists, and 116 penalty minutes in 152 games played. Career On September 6, 2011, the Toledo Walleye announced that Martin had signed to play with their ECHL team for the 2011–12 season. On July 31, 2014, Martin signed his first contract abroad, agreeing to a one-year deal with the Cardiff Devils of the EIHL. The Cardiff Devils are a Welsh ice hockey team who play in the British Elite Ice Hockey League. The team play at Ice Arena Wales in Cardiff Bay. Cardiff are the reigning EIHL play-off champions, winning their third title in a row after beating the Belfast Giants 6–3 at the 2022 EIHL play-off Final. History Founded in 1986, the club became the dominant force in the sport in the late 1980s and early 1990s, winning a total of 7 league titles. GET-ligaen
Eliteserien, known as Fjordkraftligaen due to sponsorship, is the premier Norwegian ice hockey league, organised by the Norwegian Ice Hockey Association. It comprises 10 clubs and works on the premise of promotion and relegation, in which the two teams who placed last must play the top two teams from First Division (the league ranked immediately below) for the rights to play in the next Eliteserie season. History The Norwegian Ice Hockey Association (NIHF) was founded on 16 September 1934. The same season also saw the debut of a national league for ice hockey. 2019–20 EIHL Season
The 2019–20 EIHL season was the 17th season of the Elite Ice Hockey League. The regular season commenced on 7 September 2019 and was due to end on 29 March 2020, with the playoffs following in April 2020. The reigning league champions were the Belfast Giants, who won the title on the final day of the regular season, in 2018–19. On 13 March 2020, two weekends before the regular season was due to end, league officials cancelled all remaining matches due to be held; this was as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom. Teams After having eleven teams for the 2018–19 season, the league reduced to ten for the 2019–20 season. This was due to the Milton Keynes Lightning – who had finished bottom of the league – returning to the National Ice Hockey League. The 2011–12 ECHL season was the 24th season of the ECHL. The regular season schedule ran from October 4, 2011 to March 31, 2012 and was followed by the 2012 Kelly Cup playoffs beginning on April 2, 2012.
