Joseph Adam Miller III (born June 28, 1969) is an American educator and politician currently serving as the State Representative for the 53rd district of the Ohio House of Representatives. He is a member of the Democratic Party. His district consists of portions of Lorain County. He is a former City Council Member for the city of Amherst, Ohio. Dan Ramos (born September 2, 1981) is the former Ohio Representative for the 56th District, serving from January, 2011 to January, 2019. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Career A lifetime Lorain resident and graduate of Lorain Admiral King High School, Ramos went on to study political science at the Ohio State University. Ramos spent his early career as a policy analyst and legislative aide for Joseph Koziura and Speaker Armond Budish. Along with his time as a policy analyst, he also worked the political front throughout Lorain County. The 2018 United States elections were held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018. These midterm elections occurred during Republican Donald Trump's term. Democrats made a net gain of 41 seats in the United States House of Representatives, gaining a majority in the chamber and thereby ending the federal trifecta that the Republican Party had established in the 2016 elections. The Ohio House of Representatives is the lower house of the Ohio General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Ohio; the other house of the bicameral legislature being the Ohio Senate. The House of Representatives first met in Chillicothe on March 3, 1803, under the later superseded state constitution of that year. In 1816, the capital was moved to Columbus, where it is located today. Members are limited to four successive two-year elected terms (terms are considered successive if they are separated by less than four years). Amherst () is a city in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. It is located west of Cleveland. The population was 12,681 at the 2020 census. History The original village, which eventually became known as Amherst, was established/founded by pioneer settler Jacob Shupe (who came to this area in 1811; however, what would become the specific “downtown” area was settled by Josiah Harris in 1818), although the original tiny village was first known only as "Amherst Corners" in the early-1830s. When the village-plat was officially recorded in 1836, it was simply named the "town plat of Amherst", but became "Amherstville" circa-1839, and was later changed to "North Amherst", until finally again simply 'Amherst' in 1909.
